INIS National Center of Japan(JAEA Library) Activities
JAEA- has been the national center of Japan since 1970.- sends 5,000 items to IAEA every year.- stands the third rank among member countries in 2009.- promotes the INIS Database in Japan.

Acknowledgement Appreciate the efforts of member states and INIS
secretariat members- to establish the INIS to realize the ideal of peaceful use of nuclear technology for human beings of all the globe- to provide good deal of reliable nuclear information- to improve the system according to users needs e.g. ultimate benefit, cost fee- to keep the system up-dated by adopting the most advanced information technology
Thanks to the efforts above mentioned,INIS has been playing the role of the
Key knowledge resourcesin nuclear science and technology.
6
Issues of INIS Difficulty of keeping comprehensiveness of data
collection for INIS.- Dominant publishers provide bibliographic data of articles on electric journals free of charge.- Review to define ‘core journals’ to be input.- How to keep quality of INIS data as the base of NKM than quantity.
Difficulty of search method for ordinary users- Users prefer popular search engine e.g. Google, Yahoo!
Inefficiency of data input- Availability of tools (Metadata Extraction Tool, CAI) at each national center.
8
Future of INIS Strengthen the role of INIS as knowledge base of
NKM - to keep the quality of data as the NKM resources“Necessary specialists of information technology, subject analysis,
should be kept.” - to comply with popular search engine like Google, Yahoo, etc.- to provide analytical tool using INIS like a statistical analysis tool- to link the NSA (Nuclear Science Abstracts), ETDE data base
Enhance the efficiency of INIS operation- to be available of tools (Metadata Extraction Tool, CAI) at national centers
Tighten the partnership of INIS family- to enhance human resources of INIS member states JAEA is ready to accept persons of other Asian INIS national centers for a few months OJT on INIS input or INIS use, seeking TC framework of IAEA.
