First Presbyterian Church Wapello, IA
Fellowship Hall Building Proposal
Committee
• Committee Members: Joyce and Danny Gipple, Carole Cole, Steve Odle, Kathy and Bill Barrick
• Committee Assignment: “From the church survey results develop a building proposal that is accessible to all, can seat and serve 100, has kitchen, storage and restroom facilities and will be available for use by our church as well as our community”.
Discussion of Comments• We agreed upon a design and drew up the plans.• The plans were posted for congregational comments.• We received the following comments:
– A request was made to add a door in the kitchen on the south side of the serving counter. We discussed and agreed upon this request.
– A request was made to review adding a portico to the south side exterior door. We discussed this request and decided against in the interest of cost.
– A request was made to use insulated panel construction for the building envelope. We discussed this request and decided against because this building will be used by the public and therefore all wiring will be required to be in conduit and will be required to be exposed for inspection. Also, the initial construction costs are more and there are no local contractors experienced in this type of construction.
Proposal
• Our proposal is a 40’ x 70’ building with a 5:12 hipped roof that is connected to the church by a 27ft walkway. The drawings are on the easels and the perspective views are shown in the following slides:

Moving Forward
• We have Presbytery approval to use the funds from the manse sale towards this project ($70,000).
• If we decide to move forward with this project it is the committee’s recommendation (and Session agrees) that we have all of the funds raised ($203,872, either on-hand or in pledges) by August 1st, if we are to start construction this fall (depending upon the contractor’s schedules).
• We will meet again June 2nd for a congregational vote on the project.
Questions
• Two questions to reflect and pray upon during the next 4 weeks:– Do you feel this building proposal addresses the
needs identified in the survey?– We are a small church and this is a big project. Do
you feel we can accomplish this?
