ConclusionsConclusionsConclusions• Eastward extensions of the Saguenay and Ottawa-Bonnechère grabens underneath the St. Lawrence Lowlands Platform and Appalachian thrust sheets are supported by : 1) the presence of E-W to WNW lineaments interpreted from DEM and structure maps; 2) the presence of conglomerates and various magmatic rocks of mantle origin; 3) common Pb-Zn deposits and stream sediment and groundwater metal anomalies; and 4) the distribution of earthquakes.

ConclusionsConclusionsConclusions• Faults associated with these two grabens represent prime exploration targets for hydrocarbon exploration, as they extend into the basement and thus represent potential conduits for the migration of hydrothermal fluids. A number of oil and gas discoveries have been made recently along similar structures in the United States, especially whithin hydrothermal dolomite reservoirs associated with the Trenton – Black River interval. In Quebec however, this play remains to be tested.
