Coelacanths were known only from Devonian fossil deposits and belong to a group of lobed-finned fish related to the lungfish.
They were thought to have become extinct during the Cretaceous, but were rediscovered in 1938 off the coast of South Africa near Madagascar.
In 1974 a second new species of Coelocanth was caught in the Comores Island off the coast of Indonesia.
The Celacanths are the most endangered order of animals in the world, with the Indonesian species being critically endangered.
The Natureworks casting was moulded directly from a formaldehyde preserved museum specimen by David Joffe in 1989 and is a prized element of the Natureworks collection of Natural History 3D Art.
It is the ultimate prize for any serious collector of rare animal art.

Postosuchus have been found in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and North Carolina suggesting that Postosuchus was a very successful and widespread animal. Postosuchus belonged to a group of reptiles
called the rauisuchians and close relatives of Postosuchus have been found in India, South America, Poland, and Germany. Rauisuchians are very closely related to the crocodylian lineage that still survives today.
Postosuchus was a fierce predator that possibly fed on the early dinosaurs. It measured between 20 -30 feet and had long pointed teeth typical of carnivorous reptiles. Like crocodylians, Postosuchus walked on all four limbs. However, in contrast to crocodylians, the arms and legs of Postosuchus were directly underneath
its body. Rows of small bony plates in the skin of Postosuchus lined the backbone and protected it from predators. After Postosuchus became extinct, carnivorous dinosaurs became much bigger and came to
dominate every continent.

This Giant Megalania was a major land predator of the Australian Continent in the Pleistocene era. This piece is a new addition to our megafauna collection. It will provide a great focal point for an education based play experience for children. It has been designed as a playground friendly Australian outdoor/indoor element and will provide a powerful connection between the modern day contemporary fauna and our prehistoric past.

This 3 x larger than life Tasmanian Tiger or (Thylacinus Cynocephalus) was commission by the Launceston City Council as a playground feature in 2014.
Thylacinus Potens the “powerful thylacine”was a larger and more heavily built ancestor of the modern thylacine, but nowhere near as big as the sculpture below.
In developing this piece, we ensured that it was built to Australian standards and is a heavily steel reinforced sculpture in fibreglass.
It is now a centre piece for the Launceston Park in Tasmania - This sculpt also provides an education based play experience of the unique megafauna of Tasmania that has only become extinct in the last 50 years.
Natureworks can custom build almost anything, so if you are thinking about a unique sculpture for a playground please give Natureworks a call on 07 3289 7555

During the Pleistocene, the large Thylacoleo Carnifex roamed most of Australia except the arid centre.
Elsewhere on the planet in Europe “The Americas, sabre - toothed tigers were their evolutionary equivalent Leopard sized and with a set of pincer like incisors and enormous flesh cutting teeth.
Thylocoleo was Australia’s Apex predator. A relative of the possum. Thylacoleo had a long claw on its thumb and possum-like toes on its hind limbs and would have moved freely through the tree tops, enabling it to pounce on prey from above.

David Joffe was engaged not as the creative director to develop this project but as the technical director to enlarge this dreadful model to gigantic proportions so it could lay claim to being the biggest dinosaur in the world. It was built in pieces in the Philippines and shipped in 10 x 40ft containers to Drumheller, Calgary, Canada where it was erected.
“I was appalled when told that after much discussions, the client had approved this pathetic T-Rex toy like model”. I was told to shut up and just make it bigger.”

Natureworks would have preferred to have moulded a more realistic model and then replicate the detail and proportions, unfortunately in this case the original model was very basic and lacked realism.
This is what happens when artists egos are not tempered by realists.
