Red Tag Policy:
The purpose of the Red Tag Policy is to ensure that livestock exhibited at the YCF are cared for and treated in a humane and ethical manner and that the livestock pens and cages are suitable for public display.
The Policy contends that Livestock exhibitors are solely responsible for the care of their animals while they are display at the YCF. If the Superintendent becomes aware of any livestock exhibit that is not being cared for in an ethical or human manner or a situation where the animal is in duress or where the pen is found to be failing in the cleanliness area as determined by the Superintendent or other Livestock staff the following will occur:
A- The Superintendent will discover the name & club if applicable of the responsible exhibitor
B- A red tag with the following information will be affixed to the pen or cage. a. The Exhibitors Name b. The Observed Issue or Problem c. The date & time of the citation d. Signature of the Livestock Superintendent
C- It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to respond to the Red Tag by contacting the Superintendent within 3 hours of the citation being issued. The exhibitor will explain how the issue is to be corrected and with superintendent approval. The superintendent will also use a reasonable effort to also contact the exhibitor’s advisor or parent and guardian or both to advise them of the situation resulting in the Red Tag Citation.
D- Any exhibitor failing to contact the livestock superintendent and within the 3-hour window of the citation being issued will be issued an automatic second Red Tag Citation.
E- Any exhibitor receiving two Red Tag citations during the Fair will be declared ineligible for further competition, including participation in the Livestock Auction. The exhibitor will forfeit all cash awards and other awards earned and are required to remove the animal exhibit from the fairgrounds within in 3 hours.
a. If the second citation is received post auction before the animals are loaded out for processing, then the exhibitor will still be declared ineligible and the animal will not be processed. The buyer will then be notified, and any monies paid will be returned to the buyer.
P a g e | 7
Animal Health Rules & Guidelines:

They will be checking for but not limited to all health certificates, signs of disease, general unwellness, unsightly disease conditions and any wounds opened or closed. They shall have the right to enter any pen, trailer or cargo area to inspect the animals. Any animal found to be in an unsafe or unsightly condition will be dismissed and must be removed immediately form the YCF Grounds. If during the fair an animal is also found to be in this condition it must be removed from the grounds immediately. Specific health conditions that may warrant removal are active ringworm, warts, sore mouth, infectious scours or dysentery, pinkeye, lice, mites, foot rot, infectious pneumonia and abscesses which are balding showing hair separation, open, draining or still scabbed. Animals that are lame or injured will also be disqualified by the discretion of the Veterinarian. Animals that have surgical sites resulting abscess removal are unacceptable if they have sutures, scabs or are still draining. All Animals will be given a health check form. Exhibitor must be able to produce this form in order to move in and or show. The above listed conditions may not reflect the full scope or ailment that the Veterinarian feels warrants the animals disqualification and immediate removal from the YCF
