XLRI expands footprint, to openDelhi-NCR campus in June 2020

X LRI-Xavier School ofManagement has saidit will start its Delhi-

National Capital Region (NCR)campus from June next year.In the first phase, two sectionsof 60 students each for thebusiness management pro-gramme (2020-22 batch) willbe granted admission at its newcampus in Jhajjar, 25 km fromGurugram.

This new state-of-the artcampus, spread over 36.34acres, is being readied toaccommodate 240 students inthe first phase. While XLRI-Xavier School of Managementwill be applying for AICTE cer-tification, the new campus hasearned a gold-level green build-ing certification.

The New Delhi campus isexpected to have the same ped-agogy and curriculum as XLRI-Xavier School of Management,Jamshedpur, and the facultyfrom the main campus will alsotake classes at the new cam-pus. Students who get throughXavier Admission Test (XAT)

will be able to get admission toXLRI’s Delhi-NCR campus.The choice will have to bemade while applying for XAT-2020 Entrance Test.

P Christie, director at XLRI-Xavier School of Management,said, “With India slated tobecome the fifth-largest econ-omy in the world in the nearfuture, there is a concomitantneed for more business lead-ers. XLRI took a strategic deci-sion to expand its footprintacross the country and set upnew campuses in the north,west, and southern parts ofIndia.”

The registration for XAT-2020 has been extended tillDecember 10 and late registra-tion fees have been waived thisyear.

In January this year, after70 years of its confinement inthe steel city of Jamshedpur,XLRI had laid the foundationstone for its new campus atAmaravati in Andhra Pradesh.This campus, spread across 50acres, is being set up in theGuntur district in AndhraPradesh and would accommo-date around 5,000 students

where postgraduate andundergraduate programmes inmanagement education will beoffered.

In October this year, theinstitute achieved 100 per centsummer internship placementfor its batch of 361 students,who were inducted by 86 par-ticipating recruiters. The aver-age stipend for the summerinternship increased by 12.15per cent this year to touch ~1.2lakh per month, from ~1.07lakh per month in 2018.Incidentally, the medianstipend offered, too, was ~1.2lakh per month, while thehighest stipend stood at ~2.5lakh per month, which wasoffered in the banking, finan-cial services and insurance(BFSI) sector.

Eleven first-time recruiterslike Bain & Co, Amazon, NIIF,PhonePe, Udaan, Shell,Diageo, Ola, Adani, Rupeek,Kornferry and others had vis-

ited the campus offering jobroles, besides the regulars.Consulting firms extendedoffers to 16 per cent of the can-didates, sales & marketing,and the BFSI sector constitut-ed 40 per cent and 17 per centof the roles offered to businessmanagement students,respectively.

Other roles included nichefunctions in analytics, prod-uct management, businessdevelopment, brand manage-ment, and strategy. However,it was the e-commerce seg-ment, led by Amazon, whichsaw the highest jump ininternship offers and inciden-tally, Amazon made the high-est number of offers amongstthe regular recruiters such asThe Boston Consulting Group,Microsoft, P&G, Aditya BirlaGroup, ITC, Nestlé, HindustanUnilever, Mondelez,Mahindra & Mahindra,Citibank and others.

The US government onMonday said it may slap puni-tive duties of up to 100 percent on $2.4 billion in importsfrom France of Champagne,handbags, cheese and otherproducts, after concludingthat France's new digital serv-ices tax would harm US techcompanies.

The US TradeRepresentative's office saidits “Section 301” investiga-tion found that the Frenchtax was “inconsistent withprevailing principles ofinternational tax policy, andis unusually burdensomefor affected US companies,”including Alphabet'sGoogle, Facebook, Appleand Amazon.com.

US Trade RepresentativeRobert Lighthizer said thegovernment was exploringwhether to open similarinvestigations into the digi-tal services taxes of Austria,Italy and Turkey.

“The USTR is focused oncountering the growing pro-tectionism of EU memberstates, which unfairly tar-gets US companies,”Lighthizer said. His state-ment made no mention ofproposed digital taxes inCanada or Britain.

The US trade agency saidit would collect public com-ments through January 14on its proposed tariff list aswell as the option of impos-ing fees or restrictions onFrench services, with a pub-lic hearing scheduled forJanuary 7.
