This will be a quick timeline of events. People need proof, here it is.
The charity in question is the Fuck Cancer Campaign (fcancercampaign.org), Not to be
confused with the legitimate Fuck Cancer charity (http://www.letsfcancer.com/)
Shall we?
It starts with a poke. I don't know who this is, might as well poke back, why the hell not?
Eventually, a private message comes in.
this is normal, right?
Eventually, she tries to stir up a conversation. Might as well play along, where's the
harm? Oh, you have gchat? let's talk there instead, and go off the record... odd, but
okay.
Okay, now you're the light of her life. The best. She couldn't live with out you. All of
that. (I'd post screen caps, but we're off the record now).
She's going through some "tough times" financially, and you want to help. Someone
comes up with an idea, a patch, that she knows nothing about.
how the Fck Cancer patch came to be. (click to enlarge)
Show her how much you support her:
She has stopped talking to every one of these people.
and then finally meet her in person.
Now she knows your friends. Starts talking to them online. And now they want to help.
They start a Mini GORUCK Challenge, all money going to her
every person paid $30. there were three classes like this.
get together and buy her a $245 GORUCK bag
delivered to her door, as a surprise
but fail to get even a head nod of appreciation on her website
Suggest a "Fuck Cancer" patch, that's a 2x3 patch, without an owl. Get shut down
because now she apparently owns the idea despite ever even knowing about it:
Cassie (in AH): "34% of the funds go towards “Education” which included SGK’s
awareness campaigns, or “Pink Washing”. Included in this 34% is the cost it takes to
sue other organizations for using terms such as “Race” or “for the Cure” and the salary
of their council – who gets upwards of 100,000 as a bonus for every suit they win. The
whole campaign is based on the term “Race for the Cure” which is funny, since less
than 20% of their funds go towards actual cancer research. Raising awareness by
posting a running ribbon on a hat doesn’t cure cancer. I can get into it more, but it would
be mundane and unnecessary. I don’t agree with the organization you have chosen, but
I’ve stayed out of it because it’s not my place. I can’t even go to the custom, so why say
anything? But I don’t like the idea of funds from a F*ck Cancer patch going towards
SGK. Even one without an owl, because it will take away funds for St. Baldrick’s. You
want a 2X3 F*ck Cancer patch? Great, we’ll make one – for St. Baldrick’s. And before
it’s even brought up I know I don’t own the term “F*ck Cancer”, but we all know that it
started here, and it’s my baby. So I feel like I do have some say on how it’s used."
Time passes. Website is created. People question sources, they get blocked. I
personally have been blocked despite being "her favorite".
That number, and her 501c3 status are both false
Get called out in a private group
note that she didn't bother to defend or provide proof on any of the accusations
Shortly after she sent money to the first person she claimed patch sales were going to.
We assume that it was only part of the sales, but we can't be certain.
Time goes by, no need to defend herself, so she starts to spoil herself:
That ruck looks like a different color. Same style, new color.
Turns out someone bought a new ruck for her, out of sympathy (Sounds familiar). I talk
to him about it. He questions her, she stops talking to him.
Days go by, and I get a heartfelt email:
I respond accordingly:
That's an interesting place to send money from.
I'm not sure what other "proof" is necessary. I can provide first hand experience, so can
many other people. I'll leave the comments open to allow for Q&A and give her the
chance to defend herself. She's too new to have IRS step in I believe. But at the very
least, she could provide at least one financial statement. Maybe one success story.
She's been collecting money for months and the only money I've seen her send is for a
ruck someone gave her.
I have chosen to ask questions, and I got blocked. Is there any harm in at least asking?
