Our ministry began in 1960 in response to the plea of the persecuted church in Russia, pleading for bibles and support. This focus changed after the fall of communism, to not only meet the spiritual needs of those we serve but to provide large-scale support to those suffering from poverty, persecution and wars.
Our material support of food, clothing, and hygiene items goes hand in hand with emotional and educational support, which enables our beneficiaries to work toward the goal of self sufficiency.
OUR HISTORY
2
Family to Family (F2F) is Mission Without Borders Family Sponsorship program.
Poverty destroys lives and tears families apart. By tackling the long-term pressures of poverty, MWB empowers families to stay together.
F2F monthly sponsorship provides opportunities for a family living in poverty to reach their full potential. You’ll give them hope for an independent future.
Your support is crucial to help move a family from dependency to self-sufficiency by:
• Removing many of the day-to-day pressures that drive them apart.
• Meeting basic needs, such as food, hygiene and warm clothing.
• Bringing long-term, sustainable change as they move towards self-sufficiency.
Release from Poverty∙ Repair The Ruins∙
Rebuild Their Lives∙
WHAT IS F2F?
3
Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Romans 12:9
4
Release, Repair, Rebuild…
It’s a harsh reality: parents crippled by poverty and are forced to relinquish their children to the care of a Children’s Home. Equally as devastating, in many families across Eastern Europe, fathers make the agonising decision to abandon their loved ones and the place they call home to move abroad in search of work, and sometimes, never return.
It is almost impossible to comprehend how much pain and sorrow this causes. Many are traumatised by this abandonment for life.
This cycle of poverty-driven devastation can be broken with your help. Sponsorship provides for families in various ways - practically with food, clothing, hygiene and school supplies, emotionally with regular visits by the MWB field teams and spiritually by using these visits as opportunities to introduce them to God and His abundance of love.
Once families become part of the Family to Family Sponsorship Program, Mission Without Borders begins the process of working with each family to build a capacity for self-sufficiency. Ultimately, we want families to be able to stay together.
Together we can - Release them from poverty, Repair the ruins and Rebuild their lives.
FAMILIES IN CRISIS
5
With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2
6
Sponsor a Family
Provide Life Giving Support
Practical help goes hand in hand with emotional and spiritual encouragement. Many families describe the support they receive as life-changing and life-giving. Emotional encouragement heals wounds, families are counselled about healthy relationships, children love participating in the Bible Correspondence Courses and are thrilled to attend Summer Camps. These benefits build up the self-esteem of a family to realise they are precious to the Lord and worthy of a future!
Your support will provide hope for families in all of the six countries we serve - Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. Our Family to Family Sponsorship Program is part of our Family Care Program and connects four sponsors with one family to help support them. Regardless of where your sponsored family resides, you will have the opportunity to build a relationship with them!
As a sponsor, you will receive information and photographs of your sponsored family. You can send letters and gifts (some conditions and restrictions apply) and support them in prayer. Each year, you’ll receive an update and photos of the family so you can see how your family is progressing towards self-sufficiency. Each family registered in the field country also receives monthly parcels of food or hygiene items, as well as Christian literature and encouragement.
7
And thus you shall greet him: ‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you
have.’ 1 Samuel 25:6
8
An insight into the blessings of faithful giving!
Andrea was just 9 years old when his father passed away. He recalls his mother’s tears and despair of not knowing how she would raise and educate her three boys. His father’s dying words to him were, “Take care of the family. Now you are the man of the house.”
Many nights, their family went to bed hungry, the boys missed a lot of school and went without basic items we all take for granted.
In early 2000, their prayers were answered and this shattered family were enrolled into the F2F program. “The help that came from these generous donors gave us life. The love of my Heavenly Father was felt through them.” This mother’s first request was a door to keep them safe. A door that simply locked and kept out the cold. Her prayers were most certainly answered – in abundance!
For more than a decade this family’s four sponsors in Australia continued to support them over and above their monthly sponsorship commitments. They provided emotional and spiritual support, letters and photographs, and even gave the boys opportunities to complete higher education, a life-long dream this mother had for her 3 sons from when they were very little. Each of the boys completed their studies and have all gone on to receive scholarships and degrees. Andrea now runs his own electrical repair business, fulfilling his father’s wish – to provide for his family.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for us. As a single parent, I will continue to thank you and pray for you. Only God knows how grateful I am. You are the Good Samaritan to our family. May God bless and protect you!”
Proof of God’s Love
9
10
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will
make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
11
PROVIDING CHRISTIAN Love, Care and Outreach
Our staff and volunteers visit the families regularly to bring them love, friendship and the Gospel message of their Father’s love.
These visits are most valuable and give them necessary encouragement, counselling and hope. Each family receives Children’s Bibles, and other Christian literature, and when the children are old enough, they are encouraged to participate in our Bible Correspondence Course.
In addition to their extreme poverty, many of the families have suffered great loss and trauma. Many are single parent households facing very bleak futures. Mission Without Borders staff also invite these families to attend Easter and Christmas celebrations at the local churches, to encourage them to learn more about God’s love, and for them to know they are never alone.
12
VOCATIONAL TRAINING A TICKET TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Have you ever wondered how you could make a lasting difference in the life of a child from a poor family, or even that of their parents?
Without a doubt, the best way for people to provide for themselves is through viable long term employment or starting their own business. One of the best ways to secure your future is to ensure you have the skills necessary for the occupation. What then does your future hold in Eastern Europe if you are unskilled?
Thousands of children from very large and poor families across Eastern Europe are faced with this crisis. Terrified of their future, more than half will never complete their schooling or have opportunities for further education. This leaves many young people without employable skills and the poverty cycle continues for yet another generation. Countless families are left languishing without hope for their children.
What is Mission Without Borders doing to meet the needs of this crisis head on?
The Field staff at Mission Without Borders are highly dedicated and passionate about Vocational Training. They want to equip children nearing the end of their schooling years with a level of independence and self-sufficiency. The best way to do this, is to provide them with opportunities for education and training.
13
A ticket to self-sufficiency
14
Vocational Training Projects throughout our field countries are places where gifts and abilities are discovered and fostered. You have the opportunity to commit to changing the lives of children and families who only need a door to be opened. You can invest in their potential and pave the way for them. Your support will show them they are worthy of the investment.
Courses currently being offered include: Sewing, Carpentry, English Classes, Agriculture, Beekeeping, Hairdressing, Cooking, Computers, Electronics and Car Mechanics.
Opening Doors & Paving A Future
15
How Does Sponsorship Work? There are three easy ways to begin a Family to Family Sponsorship through Mission Without Borders. You can complete the attached form, visit our website www.mwb.org.au or contact us on 02 9647 2022.
As a new family sponsor, we will send you a sponsor pack with a few photos as well as information about them and the town and country they live in. You will also receive a yearly update on their progress. This information is made available so that you may pray and focus on your family and their situation. You may write up to four times per year to your family. This gives them wonderful encouragement! We will take care of the postage and translation.
While we encourage surprising your sponsored family with a gift once in a while, the cost of postage to Eastern Europe needs to be met by you. The cost of airmail postage is exorbitant, so as an alternative we will provide opportunities, such as at Christmas, for you to purchase a gift that will be bought and packed in our field countries and delivered to your family in time for Christmas.
As a Vocational Education pledge partner we will send you a pack outlining the program, current vocational projects and your choices of support, such as course costs, and individual or collective scholarship support.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29
16
For $40/month you will be linked with a family residing in one of the six countries we support. If you have a preference you may request the country of origin that your family resides – there is a check box on the sponsorship form to nominate your choice.
Your support will provide a monthly food or hygiene parcel, as well as give your family access to all our Family Care projects (depending on the individual family needs): Mothercare, Seeds of Hope, Operation Winter Rescue, clothing and school supplies, children’s Summer Camps, emotional and spiritual support, and the Bible Correspondence Courses.
SPONSOR VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
As a Vocational Education pledge partner you commit to donating a sum every month, for example $20, $40, $50 or $100. These funds are used by our field countries to finance their current vocational projects, with resources and materials as well as allow the projects to further diversify and expand. Your support of the Vocational Education Sponsorship Program will help give so many children and families an opportunity to a future of prosperity and hope. It can literally change their life!
GIVE THEM FAITH - BECOME A SPONSOR
