Checkouts
Developed statewide collection development policyCreated forms for suggested titles by staff and
patronsCreated forms for reconsideration purposesSelectors chose content – Axis360
COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
Created all materials for libraries to use with staff and training
These are the launch kits each Library received –including a manual, App poster, brochures and postcards with different designsCreated videos and other step-by-step directionsStill involved in the PR of the next phase of the project
PR, PROMOTION & TRAINING
Numerous funding models for all types and sizes
What will MLS & MBLC pay for?PLATFORM, TECHNOLOGY & SUPPORT
What will libraries pay for?CONTENT
How will libraries pay for this?LEGISLATIVE AGENDA
SUSTAINABILITY & FUNDING
ADVOCACY EFFORTS
• MBLC Legislative Agenda
• Postcard Campaign with pilot libraries
• MLA Legislative Committee recruits library champions
Where are we now and what are we asking for?
User Group Meetings – facilitated by pilot libraries; sharing information about what they are doing to promote the project, issues they have, informal staff & patron feedback
Continue meeting with task forces to keep them engaged in the process
Partnerships with vendors – gained a lot of ground with what we were looking for in terms of content and access
Focus on vision and goals- easy to get caught up in the trends and future projects
Include all the stakeholders at certain key times
Continued evaluation of the project as you go Survey & Assessment from patrons & staff
members
KEYS TO SUCCESS
Contract negotiations Timing Authentication with variety of ILS (SIP, EZProxy,
Geolocation) Ease of use – how many clicks does it take to get a book? Apps – too many Integration of platforms for easy
discovery within catalog Easy to use instructions – especially for
remote patrons Funding & Sustainability “Pilot Fatigue” – resources to keep
engaged and dedicated to a project Content for everyone Resources - personnel
CHALLENGES
84% of the staff are comfortable with eBooks70% felt they were trained well enough to discuss with
patrons 56% staff found what they were looking for87% patrons found an eBook that met their need77% of patrons had success accessing or downloading an
eBook– “fi ne, once they fi gured it out”56% of patrons rate the eBook experience as easy31% used a tablet to access eBooks“Expand it across the state and sustain it - don't pull the
rug out from under us, please! Got some great stuff here. Hope soon that everyone who wants to can get access to it!”
“I love being able to check out eBooks. As a result of the library having more eBooks I read more often.”
SURVEY SAID…
Continuing with BiblioBoard and B&T Axis 360 (EBL pilot is no complete yet) – making strides on pricing and access
Any library in MA can participate now- must contribute $ for content
“Beta” phase – still too many variables to be worked out
More rigorous evaluation and assessment Develop “Help Desk” – will use LibAnswersSteering Committee will set goals and measurable
outcomes for 2015Work on technology issues – APIs, catalog integration,
discovery
