El Lissitzky, explained that the black square was
both an end and a beginning pictorial culture narrowed to a uniform square a
diminishing series but this square was also the beginning of a newline. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2,1
to 0 but then 0,1, 2, 3, 4, 5Malevich called his square a naked icon with out a frame
(likemy pocket) the icon o fmy time.
If the black square was zero form the subtle, tilted white square on a different white
background, was, Malevich declared, pure movement. And the red square was
sometimes the revolution, but also beauty, as the Russian word for red is the Russian
word for beautiful. (Krasny).
Malevich sometimes referred to his Black Square as the coffin of the Sun. He found the
image when he was working on the Futurist opera, Victory over the Sun.
(Byatt, p. 3)
BYATT, A. S. The nothing that is.
Just as one cannot convey the power movements of a machine by portraying
a man, so, likewise, one cannot convey the actual force of red, by portraying
a worker in a red apron.
avental vermelho. (Malevich, p. 3)
MALEVICH, Kasimir. The question of imitative art(1920)
Malevich argues that Suprematism aims the conquest of The non-objective
world through the cosmic feeling of objectlessness and take off from the
earth through weight distributed into the systems of weightlessness7.
Conceived within this framework of creativity as the revelation of cosmic
consciousness, the objectives of the architecture conceptualized by Malevich
sought to transcend the traditional utilitarian concerns of earthly conventions
just like it transcended the physical restrictions of them. Malevichs UNOVIS 8
group claims that beauty as an ideal is absolute, and therefore supersedes the
usefulness of an architectural edifice.
As Lissitzky argues, the pure feeling of the plastic relationships and absolute
and eternal aesthetic values were considered by the UNOVIS group as the
essential requirements for architecture, out of which utility would inevitably
emerge as the final quality of the product. Therefore, for the UNOVIS, the
utilitarian imperative as a predetermined task should be out of concern, in
strong contrast to the Constructivists.
Architecture brings Suprematism to utilitarian-ness. The interesting result of
this non-objective approach is that we produce an executant who is freely
capable of handling tasks that are based on real subject matter, for the
nonobjective and real are erected upon the identical principles of form.
Malevich argumenta que o Suprematismo visa a conquista do "Mundo no-objetivo" atravs do "sentimento csmico de inobjetividade" e "decolar do
(Malevich
apud Kavas, p. 33)
KAVAS, Kemal Reha.Architetural form generation in Suprematist painterly
space: the significance of El Lissitsky's PROUNs.
Clark argues that the strongest characteristics of Malevichs paintings
are their ability to displace physical space or flatten dimensionality. This
can be seen both in the Black Square and his Proun-like Suprematist
constructions. The variables on Malevichs paintings are flatness,
hardness, separateness and weightlessness. (Clark, God is Not Cast
Down, 285)
pinturas de Malevich so planicidade, dureza, dissociabilidade e
'anulao do peso'". (Sutherland, p. 3)
