ing the decennial count of South Carolina’s growing population next month, scientists will check on the number, variety and health of the aquatic population in the Wateree River near Camden. The census of the stream’s life will be conducted by the Academy of Natural Sconces of Philadelphia, under the sponsorship of E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, which is building a plant for the manufacture of “Orion” acrylic fiber at Camden.

Purpose of the study of the Wateree is to assist work at the plant for pollution abatement, on which Du Pont has spent more than $15,000,000 in a continuing company-wide program. The Wateree program, which is one of the first of its kind in the nation, was announced over the weekend following a meeting of state and Du Pont representatives in the Office of L. W. Bishop, director of the Research, Planning and Development Board. *

At the meeting were Dr. Ruth Patrick, Academy of Natural Sciences, Philadelphia; R. R. Bal- mer of the Du Pont Company, Wilmington, Del; L. M. Jones, manager of the Du Pont plant at Camden; L. B. Steele, Jr., technical superintendent of Du Font’s Camden plant; V. F. Funderburk and James Webb of the chief game warden's office; W. T.
