Southern Cross University – Head-Start Congratulations to Lailarni Walker who recently
graduated from SCU’s Head-Start program.
Lailarni is the first student from Evans River to
be involved in this program.
Head-Start allows Year 11 and 12 students to
undertake a unit of study at Southern Cross as
part of their senior studies. Students are in
normal classes with fulltime university students.
By completing the Head-Start program,
students are offered automatic entry into a
number of University degrees after successfully
completing their Year 12 school studies.
Lailarni studied Biology and was awarded a Distinction grade which is an
outstanding result! She is now going to study a Bachelor of Biomedical
Science at SCU Gold Coast campus. Congratulations Lailarni!

Kindergarten Write About Visiting the Ag Farm Olley’s Big Adventure: “I saw a goat and I saw a chicken. I saw a plover and it
was flying. I saw a goat sneeze and I saw a rainbow lorikeet. I saw a cranky
plover. We saw a crow and we heard a rooster. We saw a grey plover and we
saw an eagle.” Olley Spencer
Amelie’s Adventure: “I went on a lovely walk and I saw some goats and they
were fighting and they followed us. The goats were white and the other one
was brown. We saw a plover. The plover was brown. The plover was angry.
That was the best walk ever and that was fabulous!” Amelie Lawrence.
Heidi’s Adventrue: “I went and saw two goats, they were fighting and fighting.
We saw a hen, it was saying broak, I didn’t want to touch it. The hen was
walking slow. We were walking for a long, long time. It took us a little while.”
Heidi McLeod.
Yahburri’s Adventure: “I went for a long walk. I saw a white goat. He spat at
me and Storm. He lives in a farm.” Yahburri Wilson.
Jake’s Adventure: “Today I went for a lovely walk and I saw a goat. The goat
was white and they were fighting. Then I saw the plover. It was angry at us
and she was trying to keep her babies safe. The rainbow lorikeet was in a tree
and it was looking at me. The chicken had a red mohawk.” Jake Gow.

Gap Year A "Gap Year" is where you take a "year off"
after your secondary schooling to do something else before you undertake
further education and training (or full time employment).
Normally, people travel, work part time or do volunteer work, or a combination
of these.
It is now a common practice to defer university for a year and undertake these
activities before commencing university the following year. Students often use
this time to work to gain "independent status" before going to university,
however, I suggest you visit the Centrelink website to check on the current
guidelines for this.
More information about gap years can been found on our website by selecting
Post School Options > Gap Year/Volunteering or by clicking here.
