Get to know your employees and their values Treat each employee as an individual Provide adequate orientation and training Be sure each employee clearly understands what is expected and how output affects the rest of the operation Communicate the goals of the department Praise for good performance and improvements in performance Encourage your employees to come up with suggestions Carefully listen to all new ideas - be sure to implement the good ones Let employees know how they are doing on a regular basis Try to reach mutual agreement on improvement goals Use the team approach to solve problems Provide opportunities for employees to use their own ideas for achieving goals Keep your employees informed of changes, the reasons for them and any benefits that may result
