Endemic Freshwater Fishes in the Philippines
Pandaca Pigmea
Dwarf pygmy gobi is a tropical freshwater of the family Gobiidae. It is one of the smallest fish in the world by mass, and is also one of the shortest freshwater fish.Mature males can reach up to 1.1cm(0.43in) while the females can grow up to 1.5cm(0.59in).Average weights is from 4 to 5 mg .It is known as bia and tabios in the Philippines.
Kanduli
Arius manillensis is a species of marine catfish endemic to the island of Luzon,Philippines. It is commonly known as the Manila sea catfish or kanduli. It is fished commercially.Arius manillensis was first described by the french zoologist achille valenciennes in 1840.
It belongs to the genus arius of the subfamily ariinae, family ariidae (ariid or fork-tailed catfishes). It should not be confused with the closely related , also described by Cephalocassismanillensis Valenciennes in 1840. Arius manillensis reach a maximum length of 29.6 cm (11.7 in) (in males)
Sinarapan
The sinarapan (Mistichthys luzonensis) is a species of fish in the goby family, Gobiidae, and the only member of the monotypic genus Mistichthys. It is endemic to the Philippines, where it occurs along the Bicol river and in lakes buhi, bato, katugday and Manapao in Camarines Sur. By the 1990s it had become clear that the sinarapan was overfished and was nearing extinction.
It was also negatively affected by introduced species of fish in its native lakes, particularly the Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Conservation actions taken include the transfer of thousands of sinarapan to safer lakes where they might reproduce effectively. The transport of the fish was difficult because it is very delicate, and well over half of each load died during the process. By 2001 there was evidence of successful reproduction in the new habitat.
Biya
Oxyurichthys mirolepis, th maned goby, is a species of goby native to tropical marine and brackish waters along the coast of the indian ocean from the Africa to the western Pacific ocean where it occurs estuaries and inshore waters to depths of about 75meters(246ft.)
Bagong Lipunan
Hypseleotris agilis is an endemic species of fish from Lake Mai-init, Surigao del Norte, and introduce to Lake Lanao of Lanao del Sur .sometime in the 1960s. The principal objective of this study is to describe the variations in morphology of the species as well as determine its sexually dimorphic traits, using landmark-based geometric morphometrics.
A total of 55 (25 females and 30 males) specimens were analyzed. Twenty landmark points were digitized from which relative warp score were derived.
Tamanka
Tamanka siitensis is a species of fish in the goby family, Gobiidae, and the only member of the monotypic genus Tamanka. It is endemic to Jolo Island in the Sulu Archipelago of the Philippines. It is a freshwater fish that can be found in lakes near the coast. This species grows to a length of 6.5 centimetres (2.6 in)
