The 2009 Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Award Holders with Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister Julia Gillard at Parliament House, Canberra.
• 20 Awards annually
• Valued at up to $63,500 each.
• Australian postgraduate (Masters/PhD) students funded to study or conduct research in Asia for up to one year full time
• Strongly encouraged to undertake an internship in Asia for between two months and one year

• “When I saw this opportunity to further my doctoral research I jumped at it, I thought it would be brilliant.”
• Philippa Brant undertook postdoctoral research at the International Poverty Reduction Centre (IPRCC) in China.
• Ms Brant’s research focuses on Chinese foreign aid.
• Ms Brant built new connections with policy makers and experts.

• Valued at up to $53,500 each
• Australian undergraduate students at the Bachelors and Honours level funded to study or conduct research in Asia for up to one year full time

• Patrick Mayoh is majoring in Chinese, Asian Politics and International Law.
• His Award focus is on development and international relations at Peking University.
• Patrick says “the Award is an excellent opportunity to build professional and educational linkages”.

• Notify your Home Institution of your intention to apply
• You must be nominated by your Home University to be eligible
• On-line application process through ‘Endeavour Online’
• Register with Endeavour Online to create your user ID

Required documentation:
• Proof of citizenship and/or permanent residency
• Transcripts – evidence of academic achievement
• Formal admission letter from Host
• Referee Reports (3 required – at least two academic)
• Evidence of community service.

Overview of the selection process and timelines
1 April 2011 Applications open for the 2012 round of the Endeavour Awards.
30 June 2011 Applications close for the 2012 round of the Endeavour Awards.
July – October 2011
After the closing date, DEEWR will review applications to ensure applications meet Award eligibility requirements.
Applications which meet eligibility requirements will then proceed to an external selection panel where they will be assessed against the selection criteria.
The selection panel makes recommendations to DEEWR with the final decision on Award allocation being made by DEEWR.
November 2011 Applicants are advised of the outcome of the 2012 Endeavour Awards.
Alumni Tips for Success
• Time to prepare 2 weeks – 2 months!
• Define your purpose/s: personal, academic, professional and organisational
• Align to the selection criteria
• Discuss your proposal with your referees
• Outline the reasons for, and benefits of, your specific program
• Highlight your past achievements which support the proposal.
