Ahab . . . did more evil in the eyes of the LORD

than any of those before him.

He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also

married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal

king of the Sidonians, and began to serve

Baal and worship him. 1 Kings 16:30-31

He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria. Ahab also

made an Asherah pole and did more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, to

anger than did all the kings of Israel

before him.1 Kings 16:32-33

ELIJAHObedience

For they have forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have

burned sacrifices in it to gods that neither they nor their

fathers nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have

filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

They have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as offerings

to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.

glory of the immortal God for images

made to look like mortal man and

birds and animals and reptiles.

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and

served created things rather than the Creator

Then the word of the LORD came to

Elijah: "Leave here, turn eastward

and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have

ordered the ravens to feed you there.” 1 Kings 17:2-6

He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The

ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and

bread and meat in the evening, and he

drank from the brook.

As surely as the LORD your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom

where my master has not sent someone to look for you. And whenever a nation or kingdom

claimed you were not there, he made them swear they could not find you.

Zarephath of Sidon and stay there. I have commanded a widow in that

"As surely as the LORD your God lives," she replied, "I don't have any

bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we

may eat it—and die."1 Kings 17:12

Elijah said to her, "Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small cake of bread for me from

what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.

For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'The jar of flour will not be

used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the LORD gives rain on the

land.' "1 Kings 17:13-14

She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For

the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the

word of the LORD spoken by Elijah1 Kings 17:15-16

Some time later the son of the woman who

owned the house became ill. He grew

worse and worse, and finally stopped

breathing. She said to Elijah, "What do you

have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin

and kill my son?"1 Kings 17:17-18

"Give me your son," Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid

him on his bed. Then he cried out to the LORD, "O LORD my God, have you

brought tragedy also upon this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?” Then he stretched himself out on the boy

three times and cried to the LORD, "O LORD my God, let this boy's life return to

him!"1 Kings 17:19-21

The LORD heard Elijah's cry, and the boy's life returned to him, and he

lived. Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother

and said, "Look, your son is alive!"1 Kings 17:19-22-23

ELIJAHObedience

I tell you the truth," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when the sky was shut for three

and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of

them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was

built, in order to throw him down the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.

are a man of God and that the word of the LORD from

your mouth is the truth."

There’s No God like Jehovah

Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are confident of better things in your case—things that accompany salvation. God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. Hebrews 6:7,9-10

God is My Provider

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

God is My Eternal Life

Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

God is with us before, in and after the crisis.

Don’t trivialize what God wants obeyed.

His sovereignty is something I don’t understand but am glad He has extended it to me.

The Word of God never grows old because it is truth.
