How to Pass the exam
The first question asks you to define ‘improvisation’
So, what is improvisation?
It is a form of live theatre in which plot, characters and dialogue are made without prior arrangement and often from suggestions by the audience.
What techniques make improvisation successful?Accept what happens and don’t deny – if someone makes an ‘offer’ and you deny it, the scene will crash.
Don’t try to be funny – the harder you try to be funny the less funny something becomes. OTOH trying not to be funny makes things funnier.
Tell a story - The ‘magic’ of improv is watching as actors take random elements and make a story from them.Make your partner(s) look good – Scenario’s are successful when actors are working selflessly to make others look good and consequently make themselves look good.
