CATALONIA HISTORY Catalonia had the first
Parliament in the entire world, this Parliament was created in 1283 by Jaume I.
CATALONIA HISTORY It had one of the better literatures of the Middle
Ages, an example of this literature is on one hand “Els trobadors” who had written, what this day’s is considered the first European writing poetry, and on the other hand “Tirant lo Blanc”, which is considered the best cavalry novel of all the times.

and write in Spanish, the ones who saw how their universities were closed, etc. And all this due to “El Decret de Nova Planta” did by Felip V; at the end of the XIX century started to recuperate the traditions, and the Catalan language.
During this battle the Catalan people wrote and cretaed their song, Els Segadors.

Francesc Macià and Lluís Companys who during seven years (from 1932 to 1939) make the Catalan people believe that an independent territory call Catalonia could be possible one day.

the Catalan people during forty years had been killed and tortured by Franco, for speaking in Catalan, for talking about the Catalan traditions, for believe that a better place was possible.
THE MODERNISM MOVEMENT The modernism movement
replaced the romanticism movement, as the new one wanted to make a change in all the fields. In Catalonia, it was a mixture of the gothic and the new materials and techniques. In Europe was known as the “Art Noveau” movement.
EL PALAU DE LA MÚSICA CATALANA El Palau de la Música
Catalana in English Catalan Music Palace was built between 1905 and 1908, in Barcelona by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. It’s considering one of the most important masterpieces of the modernism movement, in Europe and especially in our country.
We can find it in the Sant Pere neighborhood.
MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS
The outside decoration of the Palace has a big relation with the Catalan History, and it culture. For example, the sculpture of the facade represents St.Jordi, la Balangera and the popular Catalan music.

and tradition things. On the right of the stage we have Beethoven and on the left we have Anselm Clavé. Both were created by Gargallo.
MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS The left wall is made of cristal, this let the natural light
enter inside the building. Originally, guests entered the Palau from the street
through two arches supported by thick pillars that opened into the vestibule. The former ticket windows, which are located in the center pillar, are beautiful concentric arches adorned with floral mosaics of various materials created by Lluís Bru.
WHY IT WAS CREATED? This building was created for being the temple of
the Catalan art and the palace of the Renaissance, as Domènech i Montaner said. But it became the seat of “l’Orfeó Català”.
At the beginning it was only for the wealthy people. Nowadays, is a concert hall, especially of classical music, where most of the catalan people goes just ones in his life.
