EISENHOWER, DWIGHT D.: Records as President,
White House Central Files, 1953-61
Alphabetical Files Series
The Alphabetical File, totaling almost 3,000,000 pages, is a largely unprocessed series of the White
House Central Files. This "Alpha" File consists of routine letters from the general public, referral sheets
indicating that certain items of public mail were forwarded to government departments for responses, and
cross-reference sheets to most of the documents in the OF, GF, and PPF series of the Central Files. These
cross-reference sheets comprise a valuable index that assists the staff in locating documents that cannot
readily be found in the main file series.
Note to Researchers:
A number of files have been spot-processed by the Library’s staff. Although they represent only a small
percentage of the Alphabetical File, these files can be made available to researchers. The attached
container list provides the folder titles of these processed files. If you wish to conduct research in any of
these processed files, please list, on your request slips, not only the box number but also the folder title
(name/subject) you want the staff to retrieve for you.
