iOS requirement for iPod Touch or iPhone

Eduphoria's application requires iOS 3.2 or later. The iOS is the operating system for iPod Touch,iPhone or iPad. Use the steps below to determine if you have the correct version of the iOS.

Settings

Tap on the setting icon.


General

Tap the General settings button.

About

Tap the About button.


Version

Look at the Version. You will need to update the iOS if the version is less than 3.2. You might want toupdate to the latest version even if you meet the minimum requirements. Future updates to theapplication might require a more recent version. As of the writing of this book it is 4.2.1.

iPad Settings

Tap on the settings icon.


General settings

Tap on the general settings button.

Version

Eduphoria's app for the iPodTouch or iPhone


Download and install the iPod Touch or iPhone Eduphoria App

This lesson describes the process for downloading and installing the Eduphoria application for the iPodTouch or iPhone.

App Store Icon

Tap on the App Store icon. You will need to have an account with iTunes to download this application.The application is free but you still need to setup an account on iTunes.


The App Store Featured Page

You will need to go to the Search section of Apple's App store, so tap on the Search icon at the bottom.

Search Page

In the search page tap inside the search field located at the top.


Enter Your Search

After you tap in the search field a keyboard will appear. Search for eduphoria.

Begin The Search

After you enter eduphoria in the search field you will see a response similar to this one. Tap on thesearch button at the bottom.


Search Results

You should get two results. The first result is School Objects PDAS and the second is School ObjectsHelp. You will download and install the first, School Objects PDAS. Tap once on the icon for SchoolObjects PDAS.


Get It Free

Tap on the Free button to begin the purchase process.

Remember, you must have setup an iTunes account to download and install this application.


Confirm Purchase and Installation

Tap on the Install button to confirm you want to get the free application and have it installed onto yourdevice.


App Store Password

When you setup your iTunes account you created a password for this store account. You will need toenter this password to confirm that you really want to download and install this application. This part ofthe process is for your security. It assures that only you, who knows the password, can purchase itemson this account.

Enter your password and tap the OK button.


Loading and Installation

After you tap the OK button the application will download to your device and install. This process takesa few minutes.

Installation Complete

When the download and installation is complete you will see an icon similar to the one in this step.


Configuring the Eduphoria App for the ipod Touch or iPhone

This lesson describes the process for configuring the Eduphoria app to work on the iPod Touch oriPhone.

Launch the app

Tap on the app to begin.


School Objects Server Settings

The first time you tap on the app it will prompt you to configure the settings. The setting in this lesson isspecific to the Eduphoria server for our district.

To begin, tap once in the Server URL field.


The alphabet keyboard

After you tap in the Server URL field a keyboard will appear. You will use this keyboard to enter theURL. You will also need to enter some special characters that are not available in this keyboardconfiguration. We will switch over to another keyboard layout to access those special characters later.


Release the shift key

The shift key is automatically enabled. It has a white glow. We don't need the shift key enabled. Disablethe shift key by tapping on it once.


Shift key disabled

The shift key will not glow when disabled.

1. In the server URL field type the characters below.

2. After you type the characters above tap the number key pad option.


Special characters and numbers

The number keyboard has the numbers 1 to 0 and some additional characters. After you type http youwill need 1. a colon and 2. two forward slashes. 3. Tap the alphabet keyboard button when you are done entering the characters above.


Finishing the URL

Use the keyboard to enter the rest of the URL You will need to go back and forth to the numberkeyboard to enter the period between eduphoria.yisd.net.

1. The complete Server URL must look like this example when you are done. http://eduphoria.yisd.net2. Slide the Use SSL option to OFF.3. Use your finger to reveal the Login Information fields. Slide your finger up slowly and the fields willcome up into view.


Login information

1. Tap in the Username field and enter you login name. 2. You might need to tap on the shift key to prevent a capital letter in your username.3. Tap on the Password field and enter your password. 4. Tap on the number key if you need numbers for your password.5. If you make a typing erro use the back space key to erase.

This is a sample of what your login information might resemble.

Tap the Done button to submit the information.


Logging in

The application will try to log in to the Eduphoria server after you tap the Done button.

The log in should be successful if you entered all the information correctly. If the application cannot login, check the information for the Server URL and make sure that the Use SSL option is turned off.Check your username and you might want to re-type your password again.


A successful connection

When the application successfully connects, your campus will appear on the screen.


A brief introduction to the iPod Touch or iPhone app

This lesson will briefly introduce the options available in the eduphoria app.

Campus List

One campus will usually be listed here unless you perform PDAS observations and walk throughs atvarious campuses. Tap on a campus.


Campus teachers

The teachers chosen or assigned to you will appear in a list alphabetized by last name. Tap on ateacher name.

*This app cannot be used to manage teacher lists. You will not be able to add or remove teachers fromyour list. That must be done from the eduphoria web admin page.


Observation and walk through documents

Observations or walk throughs already performed will appear in this document section. Tap on anobservation.


Observation navigation.

Each domain is shown on a separate screen. 1. The first domain appears by default. 2. You can go to the next domain by tapping the Next button in the upper right. 3. Use the number at the bottom of the screen to go directly to one of the five domains. 4. Use the script notes button to type some notes. 5. Tap the Observation button in the upper left to return to the observation information.


PDAS Walkthrough

Tap on a walk through.

Walk through navigation

1. A walk through does not have separate screens like an observation. You will need to scroll up ordown to view the different points of a walk through.2. Tap Script Notes to enter your notes.


3. Tap done or Walkthrough to return to the walk through setup page.


Observation on iPod Touch or iPhone

This lesson describes the process for performing a walk though using the iPod Touch or iPhone versionof the eduphoria application. The purpose of this application is to help you perform observations andwalk throughs. It cannot be used to manage teacher PDAS settings or information.

Select a campus

If you have access to observe more than one campus, select the campus where the teacher isassigned.


Select a teacher

Select a teacher from the list you have for observation. If a teacher does not appear on this list, log ontoeduphoria's web site and assign this teacher to yourself for observation.

Create a new document

Tap on the plus sign at the bottom left of the screen.


New Observation

Tap PDAS Observation to create a new PDAS Observation document.

Assignment information

Tap in the assignment field and enter an assignment being observed.


Sample observation assignment

1. Use the keyboard to enter the assignment. 2. You can choose to allow the teacher to view the observation as soon as you are done.3. Tap the Begin button in the upper right to start the observation.


Navigating domains

To navigate between domains tap on each of the domain numbers at the bottom. This is the easiestway to get from one domain to the next. You can also use the next and previous buttons that appear atthe top. When you are on the first domain the Observation button is available instead of the previousbutton. You can tap the observation button to return to the assignment setup page and save yourobservation. Use the script notes button at the bottom to write some notes during your observation.


Ranking observation domains

The default rank for a domain is No Answer. Tap on the No Answer to change the ranking level.

Exceeds Ranking

The first ranking that appears when you tap the No Answer is Exceeds.


Proficient Ranking

Tap on Exceeds rank and it will change to Proficient.

Below Expectations Ranking

Tap on Proficient and it will change to Below Expectations.


Unsatisfactory ranking

Tap on Below Expectations and it will change to Unsatisfactory.

Back to No Answer

Tap on last time and the ranking will cycle back to No Answer.


Domain comments

Tap in the comments field and use the keyboard to add comments for a domain.

Domain strengths

Scroll down a little and you will see the Strengths field. Tap in this box and you can enter comments onthe teacher's strengths.


Domain Areas To Address

Scroll down a little and tap in the Areas To Address field. Enter comments in this field if necessary.

When your done

Follow the same procedure to rank and enter comments for all five domains. When you are finished tapthe Done button in the upper right.


Save and Close

You will be presented with this screen after you tap Observation or Done. Choose if you want the teacher to view the observation.Tap Save and Close. The observation will be saved on the eduphoria PDAS server.


Document list

The observation will appear on the list of other observations and walk throughs. The observation willindicate the time started and time ended.


Walk through on iPod Touch or iPhone

This lesson will describe the process for performing a walk through on an iPod Touch or iPhone.

Select a campus

Select a campus if you are performing observations or walk throughs on more than one campus.


Select a teacher

Tap on a teacher's name.

New PDAS walk through

Tap on the plus sign in the lower left to create a new document.


New walk through document

Tap Walkthrough to create a new walk through document.

Walk through template

Select the appropriate walk through template for your campus.


Class information

Tap in the class field and enter the name of the class for the walk through.

Class sample

In this example we will walk through a biology class. I will not allow the teacher to view the walk throughfor now. It is a good idea not to check this until you are done with a walk through and have had time tocheck everything in the walk through again.


Tap the Begin button to start the walk through.

Walk through evidence

You will need to scroll down to each evidence set. A walk through is not divided into domains. A walkthrough does not have buttons for you to navigate from one evidence to the next.


Indicating evidence

To check off evidence during a walk through, tap once on an item. A check mark will appear. Toremove a check, mark tap the item again. Scroll down to the next item.

Sample evidence

In this example the teacher has a check mark on all the items.


Evidence 1 comments

Scroll down to the evidence 1 comments field. Tap in this field and enter comments for any or allevidence checked or not checked.


Evidence 2

1. Scroll down to evidence 2 and repeat the same steps to place check marks. 2. Keep doing this until you have covered all the evidence requirements.3. Use the scrip notes to keep notes for yourself.4. Tap the Done button when you are finished with a walk through.


Save and close

After you press the done button you will return to this screen. Tap the Save and Close button.

Teacher document list

You will be taken back to the document list after you tap the save and close button. The duration of awalk through will be indicated with each walk through.


Eduphoria's app for the iPad


Download iPad Application

In this lesson we will go and download the application for the iPad.

App Store

Tap on the App Store to open Apple's App Store.


Search For Eduphoria

Tap in the search field and type eduphoria.

Perform Your Search

1. Once you type eduphoria in the search field.2. Tap the Search key on the keyboard.


One Application for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

The application is free. The same application works on iPads, iPod Touch and iPhone. To downloadand install the application tap the Free button.

You will need to have an account with iTunes to download this application. The application is free butyou still need to setup an account on iTunes.


Your Apple ID

Enter your Apple ID and tap the OK button. The application will download onto your iPad and installautomatically.

Pdas app

The PDAS app will appear on one of your home screen.


Setup eduphoria's iPad application

This lesson describes the steps necessary to setup the application to work within our school district.

Start PDAS app

Tap on the PDAS app to begin.


Server URL

1. Tap in the Server URL field. 2. Release the shift key by tapping on it once.3. The server URL is http://eduphoria.yisd.net

Enter the URL into the field. The next few steps will walk you through the process to help if you are notvery familiar with the keyboard layout on the iPad. Skip ahead if you know how to enter the URL asindicated.


Entering special characters

1. The shift key should not be enabled. It should be grey.2. type http in the Server URL field.3. Tap on the number key pad option to access special characters for the next part of the address.


Number key pad

The number key pad has numbers and special characters.

1. Tap on the colon.2. Tap on the forward slash twice.3. Tap the ABC key to return to the alpha keyboard.


The rest of the address

Type in the rest of the address. The complete address should be http://eduphoria.yisd.net

SSL off

Turn SSL off my sliding the switch to off.


Username

1. Tap in the username field.2. Turn of the shift key.3. Enter your username


Username and password

Tap on the password field after typing your username. Enter your password. Remember, you canswitch to the number keyboard if you need it.


Finish configuration

After typing your password tap the Done button.

The application will attempt to connect to the server and verify your account information. When this issuccessful the Connection settings window will close. If it is not successful, check the server urlinformation, your username and password.


Navigating the application

This lesson will show you how to select a campus, if you are evaluating teachers at more than onecampus. You will also learn how to select a teacher to view an observation or walk through. In the upcoming lessons you will learn how to create an observation document and a walk through document.

Campus option

If you are only performing observations at one campus then this option will not be available and you willinstead see a list of the teachers at your campus.

Tap on the icon in the upper left.


Select a campus

If you have more than one campus it will appear on this list. Tap on the campus you need.

Teacher list

A list of the teachers will appear. These are teachers that were added to your eduphoria account forPDAS.


The application cannot be used to manage teachers. You cannot use it to add or remove teachers fromthis list. To do that you will need to use the eduphoria site.

Tap on a teacher to view the observations or walk throughs recorded.

Teacher documents

A list of the teacher observation and walk through documents will appear.


Select another campus

To select another campus tap the icon in the upper left. When the list appears you will see a button thatreads Campus next to the campus name. Tap the Campus button to return to the list of campuses.

Campus list

You are now back at the campus list.


Perform An Observation

In this lesson I will describe how to perform a walk through using the iPad application from eduphoria.

Selecting Teachers

To select a teacher for observation tap on the person silhouette in the upper left.


Select One Teacher

Tap on a teacher in the list to select that teacher.

Add An Observation

After you select a teacher his or her name will appear at the top. To add an observation or walk throughtap the plus symbol.


PDAS Observation

Tap the PDAS Observation option.

Observation Assignment

For the observation enter an assignment being observed. You can choose to allow the teacher to viewthis observation. Fill in this information and tap the Begin button.


Sample Assignment

This is a sample assignment where the teacher will not be able to view the observation yet.

Observation Domain 1

The First domain dialogue box appears. You can navigate between domains using the numbers at thebottom of the box or the arrows at the top.


Observation Responses

Select an observation response by tapping on the no answer item. This response cycles through all thepossible responses each time you tap on the response.

The first tap will change the rating to Exceeds.

Tap A Second Time For Proficient


Tap A Third Time For Below Expectations

Tap A Fourth Time For Unsatisfactory


Tap One Last Time To Get Back To Now Answer

Example Domain 1 Responses

This is a sample of what some domain 1 responses might look like.

Tap in the comments, strengths or Areas To Address fields to enter any necessary information.


Tap on the Script Notes to enter any information you need to add.

Finish an observation

When you are done with an observation tap on the first or last domain. Tap on the Observation or Donebutton.


Save and close

Tap the save and close button.


Performing A Walkthrough

This lesson describes the process for creating a walk through document.

Select a teacher

Select a teacher for the walk through.


Add A Walk Through

To add a walk through, tap the plus symbol.

Select Walk Through document

Tap on Walk through.


Select A Template

Select a template for the walk through. You might have a template that is not available in this example.

Class Information

Enter the class information for the walk through and then decide if you would like the teacher to viewthis walk through. Tap the Begin button in the upper right.


Sample Class

In this sample we will perform a walk through on a physics class.

Evidence

The evidence information is available for you to select. Unlike the observation, this one does not breakthe evidence into pages. You will need to scroll up or down the list to mark different points.


Marking Evidence

To mark evidence, tap on an evidence point. A check mark will appear. To remove a check mark tap onthe evidence point again. Tap in the comments field to add any comments.

When you are done marking evidence points tap the Done button in the upper right.


Save and close

Tap the Save and close button.

Observations and Walk Throughs

Each teacher will have a list of walk throughs. You can go back and update or delete each observationor walk through.


Edit or Delete Observations and Walk Throughs

This lesson describes how to edit or delete observations and walk throughs.

Select An Observation or Walk Through

Tap on an observation or walk through.


Edit or Delete

To edit a walk through or observation tap the begin button in the upper right.

To delete an observation or walk through tap the Delete Evaluation option.

Set Up Eduphoria on iPad

These instructions describe the process for setting up Eduphoria on an iPad. There is not program toinstall. You will create a bookmark link on the iPad so that you can easily access the Eduphoria website.

Launch Safari

Tap the Safari icon on your iPad.


Eduphoria's Web Page

In the address bar enter this URL.

Press the Go button.

Bookmark The Page

To Bookmark the page tap the icon immediately to the left of the address bar.

Add To Home Screen

Tap on the Add to Home Screen option.


Eduphoria Bookmark

At this point all you need to do is tap the Add button, but I like to clean up the name. Use the keyboardto remove that stray hyphen after the exclamation point.

Add the Bookmark

Tap the Add button.


The Bookmark Icon

The bookmark icon will be added to one of your screens that has an available space. Tap the icon to goto the Eduphoria PDAS page.

Login to Eduphoria

Enter your username and password. Tap the login button.


PDAS Menu

You now have access to the PDAS menu and the familiar format from the iPod Touch.
