This is a partialcannon of solar
eclipses for Egypt
and the near east.
It was developed to
1) minimize file size
for the discussionon Eclipses &Calendars of NearEastKings.2) Illustrate the
difficulties of
chronology
development by
use of eclipse data.
A chronology
developed on
eclipse dates, with
omissions of similar
eclipses must
explain their
omission. For it is
reasonable to
expect ancient
recorders to record
all similar events,
Otherwise the
chronology is
incomplete.

The above table is one such chronology developed on eclipse dates. The omission of
similar eclipses are noted. Without an explanation of these omission, the chronology is
logically shortened beginning from the most recent observation and working
backwards. For it is reasonable to expect ancient recorders to record all similar events,

Chronology dating by Lunar eclipses is even more uncertain. For there are some 2 to 4 times more lunar eclipses than solar eclipses. Thus correlation of any sequence of Lunar eclipses requires much more data. But sources are often sparsely populated.

Here is a very complete and total eclipseof Lower NileDelta region in Oct1197BC. Yet this nearly 6 minute longafternoon eclipse is omitted from Chronologydevelopment. However the chronologyincluded a 1258C(85%) eclipseprior to and a 1157BCeclipse after. Suchomissionswithout explanationcannot present a crediblechronology. Justasneither cana chronologybasedupon asingle eclipse observation like the oft touted Bur-Sagaleeclipse date. In summary, 1 eclipse does not make achronologyandneitherdo omitted eclipses.
