"The president should attend parliamentary sittingsso that he can answer for himself. Opposition partiesseem to be using this opportunity to push their ownagendas. Only the president can solve thematter and only after he has appeared, will things get better."
Thandi Gwala
"Parliament has lost its dignity. Our leaders haveforgotten about our needs but instead they are fightingfor positions. There are those who have their own personalissues against the president, and are using parliamentarysittings to divide members even further. Parliamenthas become a kindergarten and it is up to itsmembers to restore dignity."
Gugu Ngcobo
"Although the president was wrong to use taxpayers money to renovate his home, it is wrong forparliamentary members to behave like this. Beforethe EFF went to parliament, there were no suchproblems. It should be disbanded."
Thembeka Ngubane
"If the EFF is not disciplined, it will bring the dignity ofparliament into disrepute. Something must be doneabout their behaviour and there are certain oppositionparties who are condoning their behaviour and they mustbe stopped. As leaders, they are supposed to be rolemodels. They are also creating a bad impression about ourcountry to other countries."
Wandile Njilo
DESPITE rule number 63 of the National Assembly prohibiting members from using offensive and unbecoming language, parliament has become a sceneof shame where members engage in public spats. Last week, chaos erupted in parliament after EFF member Reneilwe Mashabela refused to vacate thehouse after calling President Jacob Zuma a thief for refusing to pay back the money spent on his Nkandla home.
NOKULUNGA NGOBESE spoke to city residents to find out what they think should be the solution.

Street naming andnumbering in EdendaleNQOBILE MTOLO>>[email protected]
THE Executive Committee (Exco) has called for an immediateestablishmentof thestreetnamingandgeographicnamescommittee.
This committeewill ensure that street naming andhouse number-ing is undertaken, especially in the Edendale area.
“Itbecomeshardat timestorecoverourservices, chargesandcostswhen we do not have a physical address to send the bills. Given thefact that this is the requirement of the geographic street naming act, allplacesandpropertiesmustbenamedwherenecessary,”saiddeputymunicipal manager Dr Ray Ngcobo.
Exco member Bill Lambert said that street naming and housenumberingneededimmediateprogressasthishasbeenraisedbefore.
“Thishasbeenraisedyearinandyearoutbutwehavedonenothing. This is something we must progress,” said Lambert.
Ngcobosaid that it is compulsory foranypropertyowner todisplaythehousenumbers, notonlyforprivateandpublicusebutalsoforlegalpurposes. This will also help meter readers to identify houses forrecord keeping when reading meters.
Investigations intocracking Caluza houses>> Building structures found to be dangerous to life will be vacated with immediate effect
NQOBILE MTOLO>>[email protected]
A GEOTECHNICAL study by SRKConsulting Engineers shows that manyhouses in Caluza have cracks because
there were no proper building plans, and thatthe soil is not durable for accommodatingbuilding structures.
This research included ground movementsexperienced in the area, the total extentof the affected area, technical findings ofunderlying soils, total number of housesdamaged and their condition, total number ofhouseholds affected and their details and arecommended solution to the problem withcost estimates.
It is stated that such findings from thereportwillbecommunicatedtothecommunity.
Building structures found to be dangerousto life will be vacated with immediate effect,
and such structures will not be furtherinhabited.
Some of the findings by the infrastructureunit show that the informal area of Caluza islocated within a valley, or natural water shed, which carries a large volume of storm waterthan the surrounding areas.
The buildings that lie within this area havebeen severely damaged. The slumping of thesoil is gathered to be due to poor surface andsubsurface drainage, saturated soils and theshallow water table which exists with poorstorm water management.
Deputy municipal manager for economicdevelopmentDrRayNgcobo told theExecutiveCommittee (Exco) that it will be a challenge toattendtomatters thatoccuronprivatelyownedland.
“Those sites are privately owned andunfortunately some of them [houses] do nothave approved plans. So the houses would not
have been built through the buildingregulations.
“Because there was no geotechnicalanalysis, which is a requirement beforeyou build a house, the houses have startedcracking. Some of them are on a flood plainand the land is wet.
“At times we are limited on what we can dobecause it is privately owned land, however asa government obligation we will engage themtosupportwherepossibletoavoiddisruptions,”said Ngcobo.
MayorChrisNdlela said that the situation inCaluza needs intervention.
“It’s a combination of proper and improperhouses. The situation is very bad. I know ofone house that collapsed as a result ofthe movement of the foundation.
“Unfortunately the owners rebuilt a newstructure on the same site. The situation is notvery good,” he said.

Plan your own funeralPEOPLE plan for many things
well in advance. Finances areset aside for schooling, buying
a home, retirement and even holi-days, but despite it being a certainty, fewer people plan for their owndeaths.
Death is not an easy subject todiscuss, especially when it is yourown. Few people enjoy facing theirown mortality.
But as anyone knows, dying is notsomething that can be scheduled.Advance planning can ensure your
wishes are followed and can removesome of the emotional and financialburden from relatives. There aredozens of decisions and tasks thatcomeintoplaywith funeralplanning.Thecostof a funeral canbeveryhigh.
Without pre-planning on yourpart, financesarejustoneofthemanytasks relativeswould have to handle. Here are some things to considerwhen pre-planning your funeral:• Contact the funeral director about whatyou want.• Choose a cemetery.
• Contact insurance agents.• Select a casket and burial location.• Choose clothing.• Decide on the flowers and music for thefuneral.• Arrange transportation.• Contact friends and family.• Order thankyou cards.• Sign legal papers.• Pay for the services of doctors, funeraldirectors, etc.
Depending on the advanceplanning you do and the service youuse, many of these tasks can be
handled by you, leaving relatives totake care of personal condolences. This makes it easier for them to copeduring a time of grieving. It alsoensures that they are not takenadvantage of financially, by peoplewho profit at the expense of other’sgrief. There are many options inadvanced funeral arrangements. Ifyou think pre-planning might be theright idea for you, discuss it withfamily and explore options.
It could be an important compo-nent of overall estate planning.

SelectivejudgementSOUTH Africans are not fair on ourprofessional footballers.
I sympathise with May Mahlangu.A lot hasbeensaidbymanySouthAfricans
about patriotism, love for the country etc. Idoubt if any of us in this country are patriots.
Presently, young prospective footballersplay football inconditionsnotbefittinghumanbeings.
Manyofthemaretryinghardtousefootballtogetoutofpoverty.I thinkMayMahlanguwasonce in that position.
How many of us serve football and SouthAfrican people in our various positions withhonesty and dedication?
Is it a love for your country when friendsand relatives are given positions ahead ofdeserving candidates?
Is it patriotism to build massive stadiumsfor a few elite while masses have no properfootball facilities?
Is May Mahlangu worse than municipali-ties that do not cut grass and mark the fieldsfor lower division teams?
Please dear South Africans, make meunderstand if loving your country entailsundermining local technical expertise? Is itabout promoting the so called LiverpoolInternational Schoolswayof playing football?
How many South Africans will sacrificetheir jobs to serve the so-called nation?
We are very selective in terms ofjudgements.
We thriveonattacking theweakandsmall.I would have loved to see the response if thisboyplayedforaclubofpowerfulpersonalities.
Presently, many of our young people areneglected in football. Our country and footballare not showing any love to them. They aretreated like strangers in their own country.
We host and dine visitors with the bestdishes while the youth lack basic footballfacilities and equipment. We make emptyspeeches referring to themas the future of thecountry while contributing nothing to theirjourney.
I suggest you pause and think about some-onewithno contractto secure him forimmediate future.
Will Safa pay hima salary if he gets aserious injury with-out a club? Whichclub can offer aninjuredplayeranewcontract? Clubs paymonthly salaries forfootballers.
Any wise manwill consider hisfamily first beforethe so-called “na-tion.”
Loving yourcountry entailsloving yourself first.
Unzima lomthwalo!
