ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE & WHITE FLAG AWARDS DINNER
CITY HALL, CORK3RD OCTOBER, 2013
New BeginningsThe Journey has just begun.....
“The greatest limit is the six inches between our ears”
Founder of the not-for-profit organisation Kanchi and its pioneering social franchise The Ability Awards, serial social entrepreneur Caroline Casey is driving societal change aimed at nothing less than a complete reframing of disability.
Central to her and Kanchi’s approach is the idea that as a powerful, all-pervasive influence in society, business can lead this change – and lead it well. And where business succeeds, Caroline believes, the rest of society will naturally follow. It’s just a question of harnessing and channelling that influence in the right way.
Herman was EHFA (European Health & Fitness Association, Brussels) Executive Director from 2007 – 2012. Under his leadership the organisation became the only recognized association representing the European fitness sector at the EU, IOC, WHO and other international bodies. He is a Board member and Chair of Events & Fundraising Committee (EHFA) since 2012. A much sought after Speaker, he has presented at events such as: EU Sports Forum; EU Sports & Nutrition Platform; Fitspiration Utrecht; World Class Congress Moscow; IHRSA European Congress; IHRSA Convention USA; Forum Club Italy; Frisk Convention Sweden; Rimini Wellness Congress Italy; SKY Congress Finland; VIRKE Congress Norway; Fitness Management Congress Barcelona; Fitness Seminar Lithuania; DFHO Copenhagen; EU Health Congress Porto & ILAM Conference Ireland.
John Lonergan joined the Irish Prison Service in 1968 and was appointed Governor of Mountjoy in 1984. He also served as Governor of the top security prison in Portlaoise from November 1988 until May 1992. His philosophy is that change, both personal and otherwise cannot be enforced upon people, believing that real and meaningful change comes through consent and agreement. He is convinced that the task for all of us is to find the humanity in another human being and then to nurture it.
He argues that if our objective is to create a just, inclusive and cohesive society we must build it on the core value of justice, equality, fairness, honesty and compassion. In particular he is a strong advocate of the benefits of Sport in the rehabilitation of young offenders and its role in keeping young people off the streets and thereby reducing their risk of involvement in crime and drugs.
