This Durga Puja, cele-brate creativity. Fromhistorical themes, different decorative

materials to olive oil used inbhog, the city-based puja com-mittees are gearing up for afestival with a novel twist.

Pankha Road BangaSammiloniThis committee, is usingTant, a traditional Bengalihandloom to make the dressof the Goddess, the chande-lier and the main tent of pan-dal. “The theme of the Pujaitself is, ‘Maa aschen tant-ersharee te’ (Mother arriving inTant saree). We want to edu-cate people about the lesserknow fabric,” says a memberof the Pankha Road BangaSammiloni, Janakpuri, DBlock. The pandal is designedby artists Camellia Sumanand Biswajit Das. The puja’ssideshows will showcase mod-els in Tant fabric dresses.

GK Part II DurgotsabThe puja celebrations here willgive you a glimpse of Delhiduring the famous Britisharchitect, Sir Edwin Lutyens’time. “The special exhibitionat the pandal will display pic-tures and copies of writings ofthose times,” says SamratBanerjee, a member. The pan-dal is inspired by theRashtrapati Bhawan. For thediet conscious, the bhog at thispandal will be made of olive oil.

Dakshin Gurgaon PujaCommitteeInspired by the Marwarhiculture and the zamindarisystem, the pandal here willdepict a mix of both. “Besidesthe theme, the pandal is agreen initiative,” saysAmitava Das, secretary of thecommittee. The pandal andthe idol are made of mudwithout chemical dyes.
