Jacqueline Senger -
DTA Executive Director
Welcome
WELCOME to the Dakota Transit Association’s Fall Conference in beautiful Spearfish,
SD. Once again we have the opportunity to come together and learn from each other.
Below is an overview of our Fall Conference. We have so much to offer this year. We
begin our conference on Saturday with our Award Winning Roadeo. This year we
have a special addition, Wyoming Transit Drivers. This is the first time in our history we
have added another State to our Roadeo. Following this event is the Roadeo Awards
Banquet, Dinner Theater and then dancing as well as visiting the evening away.
We have a two day session, Saturday and Sunday, called “Professional Dispatch/
Scheduler Certification”. In Addition to that workshop, we will have an “Infectious
Disease Awareness” Session on Sunday. Sunday afternoon is free so please take
advantage of sightseeing the beautiful surroundings of Spearfish. Sunday evening we have registration along
with Karaoke in Lucky’s 13. Come and be the star you are.
Monday we start our opening sessions with many dignitaries who will enlighten us on important transit issues:
the Mayor of Spearfish; FTA Administrator; SD Secretary of Transportation; Region 8 FTA Deputy Administrator;
CTAA guest speaker at the Awards Luncheon; panel with SDDOT Secretary of Transportation, Spearfish City
Administrator and Fall River County Commissioner; Rocky Mountain ADA Policies and Practices; and Roundtable
discussion. We will be ending our day with a hospitality event sponsored by Harlow’s Bus Sales.
Tuesday we begin our morning with a Dialysis Motivational Speaker, Healthy Transit Partnerships with Wellness
for Mind and Body to follow. Our Trade Show will begin at 2:30 pm followed by a Vendor Appreciation Social. A
band for your enjoyment, dancing and socializing will end our day.
Wednesday we begin our morning being inspired with “Life is a Marathon, So Double Tie Your Shoes”, General
Membership Meeting and breakout sessions for ND/SD.
On behalf of the Dakota Transit Association Board of Directors and myself, we would like to thank FTA, CTAA,
sponsors, vendors, speakers, rodeo participants, roadeo judges and volunteers who have contributed to this
year’s conference. Thank you to the Holiday Inn, Spearfish Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Route Match
Software, North Central Bus & Equipment, Inc., Musicians and Harlow’s Bus Sales. We sincerely hope you find
something special to take home with you, meet a new transit provider, reminisce with a DTA friend who you
only see once a year, meet a new vendor who showed you something you were not familiar with, or just
thoroughly enjoy the conference atmosphere.
A VERY SPECIAL thank you to South Dakota and North Dakota Department of Transportation Staff, we couldn’t
do our jobs without your support. Also THANK YOU to all the transit agencies and supporters. Without your
sharing of transit issues we would not gain the knowledge we need to complete our jobs successfully.
Again, welcome to the DTA Fall Conference. We hope you enjoy your time with us and thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to participate.

Troyce has been a Kidney patient in Portland Oregon for 28 years experiencing all forms of treatment in that time. Years of Out-Center Hemodialysis, several years of Home Hemodialysis and two Transplants have given him great perspective on the “patient experience”. Troyce has been a professional educator in the Kidney world for over 20 years and has worked for the National Kidney Foundation and worked and volunteered for many other organizations as an educator and motivational speaker. He has traveled to 23 cities around the U.S. while on dialysis speaking on empowering patients, transportation and organ donation. He now finds himself employed by Ride Connection in Portland Oregon. He is now in the transportation industry driving a program to improve transportation for dialysis patients. Troyce is an actor, singer, musician, biker and skateboarder who loves to cook and spend time in his boat on the Willamette River where he was raised.
Dr. Elaine Doll-Dunn is a reader, writer, runner and educator from Spearfish, South Dakota. She began running at age 40 and is now an addicted marathoner with 125 marathons on her resume’. Spearfish Canyon is her primary training venue and the scene of her most recent venture; orchestrating an all-woman marathon. A career educator, she recently retired from counseling in a middle school and gets her teaching “fix” by training women to run her Leading Ladies’ Marathon. She writes articles on fitness, has been published in several fitness related journals and magazines, and has written four books, one entitled, Gotta Run… an inspirational account of completing 26.2 marathons in the year 2000. She has climbed Devil’s Tower and Mt. Kilimanjaro, ran from the Atlantic to the Pacific (60 miles across Panama) to celebrate her 60
th birthday, reigned as
Mrs. South Dakota for two years, was named “Spirit of Dakota” in 2008, and Spirit of Spearfish in 2016. “Race Director” holds the
dubious distinction of being her toughest challenge to date.

The Lyle Berry Band The Lyle Berry Band got its start in the summer of 1974
when Lyle Berry asked Paul Young to play drums for
several dance jobs booked for the summer. Those gigs
turned into playing together for the next 40 years and
counting. Throughout that time the band has had
several personnel changes as members moved away
and then back into the area. But the one constant over
the years has been “The Man of Steel”, Lyle Berry! When
asked how a band can stay together for so many years,
the answer is, “Making music is wonderful therapy for all
of us. We are good friends making good music and we
trust that our audiences will continue to enjoy the music
we love putting together.”
Old Actors Never Die...they just seek new “stages”...
Bukit Lizt Players, Spearfish’s’ Senior Community Theater
was formed in 2014. Since that time, they have performed
over 50 presentations and production, from assistant living
homes, to Main stages. Most recently, they staged a
reader’s theater production of “On Golden Pond.” Bukit
Lizt Players hopes to demonstrate how Senior Community
Theater provides a positive view of aging within the
community. A view where life as we age is ripe with
opportunity, challenge, and engagement.
