Eleven members of Norwich City FC Down’s Syndrome squad, along with parents, carers and CSF
sta , made the long journey north to Tyneside last month for their autumn tour, thanks to funding from CSF's Sporting Light Appeal.
Highlights of the trip included a ground tour of St James’ Park (with a chance meeting with Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren!) and a visit to the iconic Angel of the North.
The trip’s xture, which took place in Newcastle United’s rst-team training dome against the Newcastle United
Foundation’s DS Active team, nished four goals apiece.
Following their xture, the team got the chance to watch the Canaries rst-team in action against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The team were also given the good news that the Pink Un’ Pickers, a Canaries supporter group, had generously donated twenty-two full Norwich City FC away kits to the team, which will be worn on future trips.
Among those travelling with the squad, was eighteen-year-old Sam Copeman who had the honour of bringing out the
match ball at the West Bromwich Albion xture the following week, as the club’s Community Hero.

Ian Thornton, Director at CSF added: “This exciting new chapter in our relationship will see innovative programmes give a new generation of
local talented young people additional avenues to develop excellence not just on the eld of play but o it too. Through this partnership, CSF, Norwich City Football Club and the College can continue to inspire young people through sport for many years to come.”
