Many datasets belong to the long tail. Though less standardized, they can be rich in information content and have unique value

Grant Support
• NSF Grant 2008 – 2019 “Dryad –scalable and sustainable infrastructure for the publication of data”
• NSF Grant 2016-2019 “ABI Sustaining: Enabling the preservation of research data underlying scientific findings through the Dryad Digital Repository”
• NSF Pilot project: https://blog.datadryad.org/2016/07/20/piloting-new-ways-for-funders-to-support-data-stewardship/

A variety of ways to participate in Dryad
• Be a member of Dryad – For governance and stakeholder support
• Some revenue • For an impactful and financially secure membership program, you
need to offer benefits and features which can erode the return on membership dollars. It is a balance.
• Integrate your journal with Dryad’s system – currently no fee – Automatically link the article and data – Make it easier for authors to submit – Encouraging compliance to your policy – Slight increase in data deposits often with individuals paying for DPCs
• Sponsor data publication charges (DPC) – our main model for sustainability

Price increase
• New prices were announced in December 2015 and were implemented January 2016 – ~50% increase for all plans – Larger discount for members (member fees did not
increase) – Increased data size allowance before overage fees kick in – Removed slight difference for integrated journals as the
price structure was confusing and didn’t incentivize integrations
