PERFORMANCE DATA
Diaphragm pump N 0150 ST.9E - for use in potentially explosive atmospheres
CONCEPT
The Diaphragm Vacuum Pumpsfrom KNF are based on a simpleprincipal - an elastic diaphragm, fixed on its edge, moves up anddown its central point by means ofan eccentric. In this way the medi-um is transferred using automaticvalves.
The KNF modular system permitsselection of materials with variouslevels of gas resistance for parts incontact with gas; the pump drive isavailable in a variety of voltages andfrequencies. Please contact us!
Pumps and pump drives in this pro-duct series are explosion proofaccording to 94/9/EC (ATEX).
FEATURES
Pure transfer, evacuation andcompression of air, gases andvapoursNo contamination of the media dueto oil-free operation
Explosion protected to ATEX
Corrosion resistant models
High level of gas tightness: approx. 6 x 10-3 mbar x l/s
Long product life
Very quiet and little vibration
Cool running motoreven when in constant use
Can operate in any installed posi-tion
AREAS OF USE
The Diaphragm Vacuum Pumpsoffer a high level of performancedespite their compact size, as wellas an excellent price performanceratio. They are required especially inthe potentially explosive fields ofchemical, analysis, energy and pro-duction technology.
The pumps are used for transfer-ring, compressing and sucking air, gases and vapours, taking samples(even transferring liquids using avacuum) and evacuating and com-pressing vessels etc.

TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS
DIAPHRAGM PUMPS CONFOR-MING TO 94/9/EC (ATEX): FORUSE IN POTENTIALLY EXPLO-SIVE ATMOSPHERES.
ATEX - The new standard for explosionprotection As part of the new single mar-ket, the regulations on explosion preven-tion and protection have now been uni-fied throughout Europe. The legal requirements are set out in thedirective 94/9/EC (also known as ATEX).In Germany, the directive was passed intonational law on March 1st,1996.
Compared to the previous legal require-ment, the scope of the regulations havenow been extended: whereas the oldregulations were concerned with electri-
cal equipment, mechanical equipment isnow also included. For pumps, thismeans that besides the drive section(drive motor, an electrical device),the working section (pump part, a non-electrical device) now also falls within theregulations.
The explosion prevention and protectionrequirements depend on the specificequipment group and the relevant equip-ment category. Rather than concreterequirements, the directive formulatesthe assurance of protection levels, thusplacing greater responsibility than beforeon the product manufacturer.

FUNCTION OF KNF DIAPHRAGMVACUUM PUMPS AND COM-PRESSORSAn elastic diaphragm is moved up anddown by an eccentric (see illustration). On the down-stroke it draws the air orgas being handled through the inlet valve. On the up-stroke the diaphragm forcesthe medium through the exhaust valveand out of the head. The compressionchamber is hermetically separated fromthe drive mechanism by the diaphragm. The pumps transfer, evacuate and com-press completely oil-free.

HINTS ON INSTALLATION ANDOPERATION
• Range of use: Transferring air andgases at temperatures between +5°Cand +40°C.Use in potentially explosive atmosphe-res for equipment group II, categories 2 G and 3 G and for authorized gases of group II B (for gases of group IIC upon request) up to temperature class T4.
• Permissible ambient temperature: between +5°C and +40°C
• The pumps are not designed to startagainst pressure or vacuum; when apump is switched on the pressure inthe suction and pressure lines must beatmospheric. Pumps that start againstpressure or vacuum are available onrequest
• To prevent the maximum operatingpressure being exceeded, restriction orregulation of the air flow should onlybe carried out in the suction line
• Components connected to the pumpmust be designed to withstand thepneumatic performance of the pump
• Install the pump so that the fan candraw in sufficient cooling air
• Fit the pump at the highest point inthe system, so that condensate cannotcollect in the head of the pump.
HINTS ON SERVICEPlease refere to the operating instruc-tions as supplied with the pump.
If you have any questions, please call ourapplication engineers (see below forcontact telephone number).
