Introduction to Stations & Companies
SCOPE: This module is intended to familiarize the probationary firefighter with the general day-to-day operations of each station and company prior to assignment on-shift. Some of the station content is repetitive in multi-company stations, however this will reinforce the knowledge of operations for the probationary firefighter. The primary goal of this module is to orientate to the following major points:
Front line equipment orientation Still district layout and specific hazards Station layout and daily responsibilities
Other apparatus assigned to each station will be reviewed, and during the remainder of the probationary period, a working knowledge of each of those apparatus will be gained. PROCEDURE:
1. Report for duty at assigned station and report to the company officer of the company of the day.
2. Participate in roll call as a member of the company. 3. Complete general station orientation, specific station orientation and complete any assignments
given to you by the officer in charge. 4. You are to respond on all incidents, participate in all training and any other details or activities
of your assigned company for the day. 5. Specific outcomes each day will be:
a. Complete the apparatus inventory with the engineer and crew as assigned. b. Discuss still district boundaries and specific location hazards in that area completing the
still district familiarization task sheet. 6. Near the end of your assigned work day, the company officer/engineer/crew will use the
flashcards as a teaching guide to review your understanding of the apparatus you were assigned to. These are designed to identify areas where additional training is needed.
