M.A. Syllabus for Semester and Credit Patterns
(From Session 2012-13)

Department of Ambedkar’s Thought
A) General
1. Semesters 1 and 2 will be for M.A. Part I and Semester 3 and 4 will be for M.A.
Part II.
2. There shall be minimum 90 teaching days in each Semester.
3. There will be 4 papers in each Semester every student has to take 1 optional
paper along with 3 compulsory papers in semester 1 and 2. There is no optional
paper in semester 3 and 4. All the papers are compulsory in semester 3 and 4.
4. There will be 100 marks in each paper, out of which 80 marks will be for
university examination and 20 marks will be for Internal Assessment.
B) Patten of Question Paper
1. There will be four units in each paper and one question will be asked on each
unit.
2. Maximum marks for each paper will be 80
3. Duration of question paper will be 3 hours.
C) Internal assessment
1. In the Internal Assessment of 20 marks for each paper. 10 marks will be for
assignments and 10 marks will be for seminar/viva.
2. There will be 5 credits in each paper-4 credits for university examination and 1
credit for internal assessment.
3. Minimum passing marks for each paper will be 40 (Minimum 32 (1.6 credits) in
university examination and 8 (0.4) in Internal Assessment.)
4. The students will be required to pass in both university examination and Internal
assessment separately, and obtain minimum 40 marks in each paper of each
semester.
5. Credits will be calculated on marks obtained out of 100.
D) Absorption Scheme
1. Wile switching over to semester system, failure students will be given three
chances to clear yearly pattern.
2. To get admission to the third semester, students should clear first semester,
While appearing for fourth semester exam, a student must have cleared second
semester.
3. First year annual pattern students shall get admission to third semester dire city
4. For absorption of the failure students in existing course who is not cleared M.A. II
he will admit for third semester.
5. A person who unable to clear M.A. I year exam to the given changes will be
admitted for 1st
Semester.
E) Grade Point Average (GPA) and Course Grade Point Average (CGPA)
1. On clearing a paper, based on the cumulative score (out of 100) in that paper, a
student will be given Grade Point Average (GPA) (Maximum of 10, and minimum
of 4) for that paper. The students will be allotted a Course Grade Point Average
(CGPA) after clearing all the 4 Semesters as indicated below.
