THE  MISSIONThe  Make  a  Statement  Campaign  was  founded  in  2008  and  is  a  student-led  initiative.  Its  mission  is  to  provide  graduating  BBA  students  with  the  opportunity  to  give  back  to  the  Wisconsin  School  of  Business  and  raise  awareness  about  the  importance  and  necessity  of  private  funding.  A  little-known  fact  about  the  Wisconsin  School  of  Business  is  that  private  funding  accounts  for  27  percent  of  the  school’s  budget,  while  tuition  only  covers  15  percent  of  total  costs.  With  the  continual  trend  of  state  funding  being  cut,  the  need  for  private  funding  is  becoming  increasingly  important.

THE  HISTORYEach  year  the  student  board,  comprised  of  eight  members,  holds  two  campaigns—one  in  December  and  one  in  the  Spring—which  allow  for  involvement  from  all  graduating  BBA  students.  Since  the  beginning  of  this  campaign,  students  have  contributed  $640,428  in  donations.  Just  last  year,  participation  soared  to  an  all-time  high  of  51  percent,  compared  to  the  22  percent  of  BBA  students  who  made  donations  in  2011.  The  goal  for  this  year’s  December  campaign,  which  kicked  off  on  Monday,  November  12th,  is  to  have  a  52  per-cent  rate  of  involvement  from  BBA  seniors.

THE  EFFECTNot  only  does  your  participation  in  the  campaign  help  to  fund  all  the  events,  workshops,  and  seminars  that  occur  inside  the  beautiful  walls  of  Grainger,  but  it  also  has  the  following  effects:Motivational  Impact--Student  participation  in  donating  to  the  busi-ness  school  inspires  alumni  to  also  play  a  part  in  giving  back.Leverages  support  for  the  school--Student  gifts  count  towards  alumni  participation.  High  alumni  participation  rates  increase  the  likelihood  of  receiving  more  grants  and  improving  the  school’s  ranking  on  World  Report.

LEAVE YOUR MARK,

MAKE A STATEMENT!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                by  Hannah  Harris

STUDENT  INCENTIVES  No,  the  Make  a  Statement  Campaign  will  not  offer  you  a  slice  of  free  pizza  for  your  donation,  but  they  will  provide  you  with  these  cool  rewards,  no  matter  the  size  of  your  gift!Graduation  donor  cord--Wear  your  dedication  to  the  Wisconsin  School  of  Business  with  pride  as  you  strut  across  the  stage  at  Com-mencement  in  your  donor  cord!Name  on  the  donor  wall--The  graduating  class  of  2012  graciously  gifted  the  Wisconsin  School  of  Business  with  the  installation  of  a  student  donor  wall  in  the  west  atrium  of  Grainger  Hall.  All  donors  will  have  their  names  engraved  on  their  class  plaque,  added  to  the  wall  each  year  following  their  graduation.  Talk  about  leaving  your  mark!

DONATIONSStudents  have  the  opportunity  to  contribute  in  two  ways:  by  making  an  immediate  donation  or  by  taking  a  pledge.  A  pledge  is  a  one-year  or  multi-year  commitment  to  donate  a  certain  amount  by  the  end  of  the  pledge  period.  In  addition  to  choosing  the  manner  of  their  contribution,  students  must  also  choose  where  to  dedicate  their  gift.  Each  year,  the  highest  number  of  student  donations  are  designated  to  the  annual  fund,  a  pool  of  money  accessible  to  the  Dean,  which  gives

-amples  of  necessities  that  fall  under  the  annual  fund  include:  student  scholarships  and  support,  updated  technology  within  the  building,  and  competitive  salary  offered  to  faculty  in  order  to  entice  current  faculty  members  to  stay  and  prospective  faculty  members  to  choose  Wisconsin.  Donations  and  pledges  can  be  made  online  at  http://bus.wisc.edu/pledgebba
