The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated in Mexico. Day of the Dead is celebrated by Mexicans and Mexican- Americans. This
holiday celebrates dead ancestors on the first and second day of November. Civilizations such as the Aztecs and Mayans were
thought to have celebrated this holiday.
Beliefs
People relate the Day of the Dead to Halloween in America. Halloween is a holiday that Americans fear the dead, but in
Mexico the Day of the Dead is a holiday to celebrate the dead and not fear it. On this holiday, Mexicans go to the
cemeteries that their families were buried to fix and decorate the area.
Sugar Skulls
During the celebration of The Day of the Dead, the people of Mexico like to make sugar skulls. Sugar skulls are decorations that are made to make the festivals more exciting. Though sugar skulls are made for decorations, they can also be eaten.
