GOVERNANCE, QUALITY AND EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE
• Audited the Royal Australian Navy’s policy for decompressing rescue personnel during submarine rescue operations. Collaborated with the United States Navy Experimental Dive Unit to determine the probability of decompression sickness and compare alternative decompression strategies.
• Rewrote the Navy’s underwater medical attendants clinical protocols in alignment with latest best practices in order to improve patient care standards. Read and reviewed dozens of clinical articles assessing relevance and clinical applicability.
• Delivered accreditation and maintenance support to the Unit’s hyperbaric ventilators and developed SOP.
• Aided with gathering and analysis of health intelligence whilst on deployment. Developed aeromedical evacuation plan used by Navy Health Intelligence Office to support UN Peace Keeping mission in Southern Sudan.
• Contributed to clinical governance in the Submarine Underwater Medicine Unit through effective monitoring and review. Monitored resuscitation bay ensuring readiness, quality control and compliance.
• Introduced ultrasound technology into the unit following budgetary removal of x-‐ray capability. This delivered an alternative means for excluding simple pneumothorax prior to hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
• Introduced ‘Difficult Airway Kits,’ in the event of CICO scenarios.
