Dear CSHA Members,
My name is Emilie McLeod, and I am very proud to serve as the CSHA Board of Directors president in 2020. What
a strange and humbling time we find ourselves in as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. More than ever, speech-language
pathologists and audiologists in Colorado are demonstrating our value bravely providing front-line services in medical settings, innovatively delivering school-based services from home and adaptively keeping private practices running via teletherapy. I am honored to be a part of such a remarkable group of people.
Although 2020 will certainly be an extraordinary year, CSHA will continue to advocate for speech-language pathologists and audiologists in Colorado. We maintain consistent communication with our lobbyist at the Capitol to keep our professions involved with current legislation. We continue to look ahead to next year when we will promote a bill to approve interstate compact certification in Colorado. Interstate compact certification would allow Colorado speech-language pathologists to work across state lines with just their Colorado certification. Colorado will be one of the first states to present this legislation to our Congress, but many other states will follow. We want to know your questions and opinions about the compact! Please see more information about the compact from ASHA by visiting: https://www.asha.org/Advocacy/state/Audiology-and-Speech-Language-Pathology-Interstate-Compact/, and let us know what you think.
As we navigate together through the unknown landscape of the upcoming year, please be sure to renew your membership and promote CSHA membership among your friends and colleagues. Your membership dues are valuable, allowing us to continue to advocate and provide education for Colorado speech-language pathologists and audiologists. We quite literally cannot do it without you! Please never hesitate to contact CSHA with questions or concerns. Our new vision statement is Making Colorado a Place Where All Voices Are Heard and that includes every single one of yours.
Gratefully,Emilie McLeod, MS, CCC-SLP CSHA President

The Informed SLP is a website that helps practicing clinicians know our field’s research. Their team of 35 scientists and clinicians read hundreds of papers every month, to find the evidence that speech-language pathologists need most.
They then describe the research in plain language, so that speech-language pathologists can know the research in a way that is straightforward, simple and immediately applicable.
Become a member of Informed SLP using the 30 percent off coupon code, Colorado. The coupon is valid between now and May 30. For every member of CSHA who joins using our coupon, The Informed SLP will also give back $10 to our association!

On January 15, nine members
from Colorado Speech-Language-Hearing Association participated in our annual Day at the Capitol event. It is an annual event where Colorado speech-language pathologists and audiologists have an opportunity to meet
with legislators to engage in dialogue about legislative priorities that impact the profession and the clients that we serve.
We spent the morning meeting with legislators and their staff, discussing current issues that will affect our professional and client community in 2020. We discussed the speech therapy bill, sunsetting in the early fall that may “deregulate” our profession at the DORA level. We discussed the critical work within the large scope of our practice and the concerns with reimbursement rate relative to other similar profession rates.
Our members were introduced to the legislators on the floor during an active session and were recognized and applauded for our work and commitment to the community.
It is important to meet and network with lawmakers at the state level, to engage as one loud voice to bring attention to critical issues impacting our daily clinical practice and the lives of our clients. We are grateful for the opportunity to do this annually.
