22ndApril2019CREATIVEDRAMACLASSPRESENTATIONTERMGeorgia’sThurday5.30pmClassDearParents,Theemphasisofthisterm’sclassisquitedifferent.Theclassestaketheformofrehearsalsforouropenclass presentation,where the students present short scenes, in costume. The parents are invited tothesepresentations, timingsbelow,andthechildrenarepresentedwithaCentreStageCertificateofparticipation&presentation.Itisouraimforeachstudenttoshowself-disciplinerequiredinrehearsal,selfstudy&selfmotivationrequiredthroughlinelearningoutsideofclass,aswellasaimingtodevelopgreater focus and attention. These are very different skills to those being taught within our regularCreative Drama classes, where in terms 1 & 2 the work is process driven. In the very short timeavailable,wewillalsoaimtowardsbuildingconfidenceandintroducebasicperformanceskills.YourRole-VeryImportant:1.Itisreallyimportanttohelpyourchildwithanylinelearningtheymayneedtodo,asthisisanareawecannothelpthemwith.Iftheyfeelhappyandconfidentwiththeirwordsitwillgivethemgreateroverallconfidenceintheirpresentationandmakeitanenjoyableexperienceforthem.2.Secondly,wewouldappreciateit,ifyourchildcouldbeasconsistentintheirattendanceaspossible,aspoorattendanceimpactsboththemselvesandtherestofthegroup.Ouraim is for thestudents to feelasconfidentandhappyaspossible,soas togainapositiveandenjoyableexperience frompresentingtoanaudience.Thiscanonlyhappenwithregularattendanceandhelpwithlinelearning–yourjob☺andconfidenceinknowingwhattheyaredoing-ourjob☺.Ifstudentshavetobeabsentpleaseletusknowbeforehandsowecanmakeanynecessaryadjustmentstotherehearsalstructure.CreativeDramaUsually, in our Creative Drama classes, our focus is on the process, rather than the outcome aswebelievevery strongly in thevaluesgained from theseprocessdriven sessions.However, theCreativeDrama structure does not lend itself to spectators & observation, as the value is in the experiencerather thanperformance toothers. Inorder foryou tohaveanopportunity toseeyourchildren,wechangeouremphasisforafewweeksonly, intermthree,topresentsomeofthestoriesanddramaswe’vebeenexploringinclassovertheyear,thistimeusingascript.Pleaseseeattacheddocexplainingwhat Creative drama is.
