There are 13 Creative Sectors
The creative industries are those industries that are based on individual creativity, skill and talent. They are also those that have the potential to create wealth and jobs through developing intellectual property – the UK definition

Progress on delivering commitments18 of the 26 commitments are either underway or completed
• Three school-based pilot projects relating to talent and IP launched
• £10m in R&D grants for the Creative Industries have been made by the Technology Strategy Board

• Liverpool’s tenure as European City of Culture 2008 was a catalyst for physical regeneration but also for regenerating belief, hope and human spirit.
• Prime example of why it is important to sustain cultural investment, even in an economic downturn
• We are taking forward an idea to have a British City of Culture

Upcoming milestones
Spring 09• Cracking Ideas exhibition at the Science Museum will start later
this month• New £5m R&D funding cycle due to commence• A report highlighting best practice in business support for
creative businesses will be published by the end of April
Summer 09• A tool-kit for boosting the creative economy at a local level will
be published in early July• The findings of research into higher education and the creative
industries will be published
