COVID-19Ongoing Monitoring of Canadian Perceptions & Behaviour
WAVE 31
February 9, 2021
02P A G E
Methodology
STUDY
With the coronavirus outbreak in
Canada and abroad, the Angus Reid
Group commenced a weekly (and
now bi-weekly) tracking study that
began on March 16, 2020. The
purpose of this study is to investigate
the current state of Canadian
perceptions, the way this pandemic
has affected their day-to-day lives
and how it’s changing over time.
FIELD DATES
Wave 31: Feb 5-8, 2021
SAMPLE
Wave 31: n=1,504
For this most recent wave, a
representative sample of n=1,504
Canadian Adults (age 18+ yrs.) who
are members of the Angus Reid
Forum. The sample frame was
balanced and weighted on age,
gender, and province according to
latest Census data. For comparison
purposes only, a probability sample
of this size would yield a margin of
error of +/- 2.5 percentage points,
19 times of out 20.
NOTE
Throughout the report, and
are used to denote statistically
significant increases or decreases
from previous waves at 95%
confidence level.

5 Things You Should Know
01
02
03
04
05
Still focused on health: Canadians are still clearly focused on the health issue over the economy - holding steady at 62% vs 38%, respectively. Since last June when the economy was on equal footing with health care, health care has taken the lead.
Desire for "Back to normal": The sentiment that "it's time for things to get back to normal" is at its highest point since the pandemic began (57% agree).
Things are getting better all around: Since the start of the new year, there has been a dramatic increase in perceptions that things are getting better in Canada (now 54%), in the U.S. (41%) and around the world (51%)
Uptick in openness to go to stores: Over the last couple of weeks, Canadians are expressing slightly more willingness to go to retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and airports.
Online transaction consistency: Throughout the pandemic we've seen relatively consistent proportions for transactions conducted for banking, food delivery services, click & collect groceries. Online retail shopping grew steadily throughout the pandemic until October where it has since stayed consistent around the 70% mark.
