In accordance with EHS Policy of Parabolic Drugs Ltd. (PDL), all contractors (including
service providers, manpower suppliers, subcontractors), who work or wish to work at any PDL site,
are obliged to observe all relevant accident prevention regulations, guidelines and conditions
which are mentioned below. Employees of contractors shall behave in accordance with these
guidelines for environmental protection and safety.
These are general guidelines, other than the Safe (Standard) Operating Procedure(s) for
various jobs, which are applicable during execution of jobs. For e xample, if welding is to be done,
the welder shall take necessary precautions to avoid fire, use welding hood, earth the machine
and job properly etc.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS1. Statutory Compliance - Contractor shall be responsible for complying with the applicable
laws/bye laws/Regulations in force from time to time. Contractor shall have to bear all
statutory liabilities as applicable to his workers/personnel engaged by him for the job.
Nothing will be paid extra in this regard. If PDL pays any amount in this regard, the same
amount will be deducted from the bill.

2. Contractor shall have to arrange insurance cover for the workers/personnel engaged by him
for the job. Also he will be responsible for all the dues of the workers / personnel engaged by
him including the liabilities if any towards workmen compensation or under any other law.

3. Daily attendance register shall be maintained at the site.

4. The contractor(s) shall get necessary govt. licenses / registration certificates and submit
a copy with HR deptt. (This applies to sub contractor(s) employed by main contractor also).

6. Supervision : It is the responsibility of the contractor to supervise and control the jobs. It is
the responsibility of the contractor to ensure that their employees work at assigned place(s)

.8. Prohibition of alcohol, chewing of tobacco, pan masala & smoking: There is a general
ban on chewing of tobacco, pan masala smoking & alcohol consumption on all sites.

9. Hazard Communication: Contractor engaged in civil/ mechanical fabrication, have the
responsibility to ensure that necessary cautionary sign boards are posted at places wherethere are hazards e.g. open spaces (cutouts, trenches), work overhead, welding etc.

10. It is the responsibility of the contractor to develop a system to inform his team about
dangerous occurrence and where to assemble , if such situation develops.

11. Storage of materials: Contractor is responsible for proper storage of his material.
Combustible materials shall be stored at predefined place.

12. Machines & Equipments of Contractor: All the machines, tools and equipments of the
Contractor shall be in safe condition so as to avoid any injury to employees, untoward
incident (electrocution, fire amputation etc.). The power cables / wires shall be without joints.
The contractor shall get his equipments, tools, machines checked from PDL projects/safetydeptt. for suitability. Defective machines/tools/equipment shall be taken out of service and
shall be taken into service only after proper repair and subsequent verification by PDL
project personnel. Special precautions shall be given to electrical power driven machines
(welding machines, cutting wheel etc.) The wire supplying power to these equipment shall
be adequately sized (rating), and MUST have earth wire suitably connected to the machine.

13. Loading of Platforms : No storage or working platform shall be overloaded than its safe
loading limit, so as to avoid its breakage and resulting in an accident.

14. Control Over children & Child labour : If there are children with workers, it is the
responsibility of the contractor to ensure that the children dont go to work area to avoid any
harm to them or others. Employment of child labour is banned.

15. Machine Guarding : All types of moving, cutting, grinding work, or rotating appliance used
by contractors shall be properly guarded in such a way that they do not pose danger to the
user. If during checking (by PDL officers) it is found that the equipment/ machine is without
such guard, the machine shall be taken out of service and the loss thus incurred shall be
borne by the contractor. ,

16. Behaviour in the event of fire or other catastrophe: Any outbreak of fire, spillage of larger
amounts of combustible liquids must be reported immediately to the gateman and site
incharge. This report should contain the following information: Who is reporting? What has
happened? In an emergency (fire, escape, etc.) all employees must immediately leave the
buildings by the marked escape/evacuation routes and present themselves at the assembly
points (opposite the gate). Lifts must not be used. At the prescribed assembly point, the
senior representative of the contractor must check that all his employees are present, and
report this fact to the head of operations. No activities which might impede evacuation may
continue after the relevant alarm signal has sounded. Return to the site of work will be
allowed only after clearance has been given by the fire brigade or the coordinator.

17. Accident Report: Every incident / accident (personal injury, fire spillage, environmental
incident or damage to PDL equipment / property) MUST be reported immediately to PDL site

18. Instruction of employees for prevention of injury: The contractor shall train his
employees regarding prevention of injury at least annually and shall confirm this with record
without being reminded to do so.

19. Environmental Concern : It is the responsibility of the contractor to ensure that there is
minimum impact (adverse) on the environment.
20. Pollution Prevention: The contractor shall provide training to its employees either by self or
thru PDL management, various methods to be adopted to prevent pollution to the
environment e.g. oil spill control in mortar mixture, portable DGs.

21. Natural resource preservation: The contractor shall provide training to its employeeseither by self or thru PDL management on various methods to be adopted to preserve

natural resources especially water in construction activities and water used by labours.
22. Air Emissions: Equipment generating smoke, fumes shall be maintained such that the
emissions are minimized. ,
23. Hazardous Material Spills: The Contractor must report any spills immediately to the Project
Manager and EHS and take immediate action to contain the spill. Regulatory agencies
require containment and remediation of all spills of hazardous materials, including fuels and
oil. Contractors who spill any such substances on organization property are responsible for
clean-up coordinated through EHS. (

24. Waste Management: After completion of the work all the malbas and debris are to be
removed and to be dumped in a dump yard duly approved by the PDL with his own
arrangement of transportation by the contractor. All the waste material generated during the
work shall be stored at a designated place. It shall be ensured that different waste is kept
separately. ( )

25. Portable ladders : All portable ladders shall be maintained in such a way that they do not
cause injury to the users. /

26. Scaffolding / elevated workplaces: Only approved and tested scaffolding, ladders, etc.
may be used. Scaffolding must in principle be erected and cleared for use by specialist staff,

and may be altered only by them. Nevertheless, anyone wishing to use the scaffolding
should ensure that it is free from defects. Guard rails are to be provided at all elevated
workplaces. Contractor shall have to provide all safety appliances i.e. safety helmet, safety
belt etc. to your workers while working at height at his own cost and follow all regulation and
all statutory provisions also covering the working areas etc. in force. He shall be liable to
incur all the expenses in consequence thereof and PDL is in no way responsible for any
damages arising out of this work contract. After completion of the work all the scaffolding
materials are to be dismantled, removed & stored at designated place or removed from the

27. Load handling and lifting devices: Only tested and approved (by PDL staff) load handling
and lifting devices shall be used. Such devices shall have required identification plate to
declare that the device is suitable for lifting the desired load. PDL load handling and lifting
devices may be used only with the written consent from respective authority.

28. The electrical contractor , his wire men and supervisors shall be qualified and have a valid
license while quoting as well as during the course of work. The contractor shall provide a
qualified electrical engineer at site during the execution of work.
29. Worksite electrical supply Cables for worksite electrical supply must be laid so that they
are protected from physical damage (e.g. by load-bearing and non-slip cable bridges, by

under floor or overhead routing). Worksite electrical supply distributors must be equipped
with a MCB and must be earthed.

30. Machines driven by electrical powe r shall be operated by only trained personnel and if
any repair work is to be done on any such machine same shall be performed only after
isolation of power. These equipment (including their switches) shall be properly identified, so
that there is no chance of any wrong operation.

31. Escape routes: Escape Routes, exits, electrical and mechanical supply facilities, fixedladders, etc. shall not be obstructed. Access to emergency equipment and facilities required
for fire prevention, Health & Safety at Work or general safety must always be kept free from
obstruction. Misuse of such equipment or facilities is forbidden.

32. Personal Protective Equipment: It is the responsibility of the contractor to procure,
distribute, and implement their use. The quality of PPE should be got approved by PDL
Safety Incharge. This include safety shoes, helmets, protective chemical / dust masks,
safety goggles, aprons, gloves, safety belts etc. ,

33. Violation: Violation of PDL Procedure applicable thru this guideline or other procedures e.g.
working without permits, acting unsafely, creating unsafe condition(s) shall attract monetary
penalty (Rs. 20,000/- per violation) and may also attract suspension of contract & complete
ban on future working with PDL. Upon observation of violation the same shall be
documented, signed off (as acceptance) by local rep. of contractor.

BASIC SAFETY RULES
Parabolic Drugs Ltd. (PDL) gives priority to Safe Work. The basic idea of these rules is to keep good health of all men,
material, machinery and environment inside PDL premises.
It is expected that all should follow these, while on duty.
1. All employees are expected to: wear clean uniform, tight fitting clothes, and keep personal hygiene. Wear shoes to protect their feet, safety helmets in the specified areas safety goggles when charging/discharging/siphoning chemicals or opening lines of compressed gases. Appropriate masks should be used when working in any such area where the dust/mist/ vapors/ gasesof the chemicals are present in higher concentration.
Acid and alkali proof apron and face shield must be worn while handling corrosive chemicals like acids& alkalis.
2. Many of our material are hazardous. Do not spill /spoil or waste them . Please refer Material Safety Data Sheets(MSDSs) or contact area Incharge for their hazards & safety requirement before their use.
3. All persons who work on heights (where there is a potential of fall), should use Safety Belt to arrest fall.
4. For every job requiring entry to a confined area the same shall be done only after getting proper CONFINED SPACEENTRY PERMIT . For jobs requiring to work on height, where permanent platforms is not available WORKING ONHEIGHT PERMIT must be taken.
5. All jobs in flammable area, which require use of flames / sparks or generating spark / excessive heat, should be doneonly after getting a proper HOT WORKS PERMIT .
6. All maintenance jobs shall be done only after getting WORK REQUISITION FORM
7. Do not wear synthetic clothing, windcheater, do not shake poly bags in hazardous atmosphere or area, this createstatic charge and may result in fire.
8. Use of earthing (grounding) is must during handling flammable/combustible solvents.
9. Do not block Safety Showers, Fire Fighting Appliance, Escape door or Passageways. They may create obstructionswhen required for use.
10. Keep your personal protective equipment in clean and usable condition. You must use them; they are for your safety.
11. Report accidents / incidents / any abnormal condition / sound / vibration / spillage in your area immediately to your supervisor/ section incharge.
12. Do not enter any other area without the instruction / permission of your section incharge.
13. Assemble at designated Assembly Point during emergency.
