VictorianThe Victorian roof can also work really well when you might not haveas much space in the garden as you would like. The internal plasterfinish on the roof can look really attractive with its facet front finish.
The gable ended main feature is its continuous height it brings to theroom owing to its long ridge down the centre. The gable also allowsyou to get the most from your roof windows giving you a light andairy space. Suitable for replacement or new build.

Limitations of use
Celuplast Ltd – Guardian Roof is a proprietary solid roof system to replace the existing translucent roof to a domestic conservatory. This roof system achieves the u-values specified in Table 2 of Approved Document L1B. This registration applies to the roof only. If the former “conservatory” is no longer an exempt building due to not having a transparent roof then the following guidance should be followed:
Approved Document A: The existing structure will need to be assessed to ensure its adequacy for taking any additional loads and may include exploratory investigation of the existing construction.
Approved Document B: There may be “conservatories” where the unprotected areas become excessive as a result of no longer being exempt. Approved Document B Volume 1: Section 9 should be consulted and the unprotected areas may have to be reduced in order to comply with the guidance of B4 (or alternative guidance should be sought i.e. fire risk assessment).
Approved Document L1B states that the amount of glazing allowed to an extension is 25% of the floor area. In order for this limitation not to apply, there should be:
1. Effective thermal separation between the dwelling and former “conservatory”. 2. Independent temperature and on/off controls to any heating system installed
within the former “conservatory”. If the thermal separation is removed then the amount of glazing to the former “conservatory” should be reduced to less than 25% of the floor area and the glazing should achieve a U-value 1.6W/m2..K (alternatively heat loss calculations may be used). Refer to Technical Guidance Note MG0010411 Application of Part L to Conservatories attached to existing dwellings.
Advice Notes Climatic Condition Details e.g. wind speeds, height above sea level, exposure, etc.

The Guardian Warm Roof Conversion System has beendesigned to provide a high performance thermal andstructural solution with zero condensation risk over the lifeof the roof.
Each of these elements has been fully tested and approvedby independent industry experts to evaluate thermalperformance, structural performance, condensation risk andquantify energy savings.
The Guardian roof best practice approach has enabled theLocal Authority Building Control (LABC) to certify theGuardian Roof System as a LABC Registered System.
In some cases the Guardian roof conversion would beexempt if it was at ground level, does not exceed 30m2 floorarea, be thermally separated from the building it is attachedto, have an independent heating system from the mainbuilding and have glazing that meets Part N in the criticalzones.
However, Building Control approval should always besought. But, with Guardian systems being LABC certified, this process should proceed without complication.
The Guardian Warm Roof Conversion System is fullycompliant for use in a conventional situation such as anextension and has been fully approved by LABC for use as afull replacement conservatory roof.
With Building Control approval, Guardian high performanceinsulated roof conversions may allow the removal of the wallbetween the house and the conservatory, offering theflexibility to extend and enlarge an existing kitchen, livingroom or bedroom.

AECOM modelled a typical house with a
standard “Victorian 12’ x 12’” conservatory.
The conservatory was northward projecting
with an electric heating system. A future
energy price forecasts was accounted for
under the “Green Stimulus” price forecast
that yielded a saving of £5,447 after 25 years.
The key conclusion drawn from this
evaluation is that the greatest benefits from
installing the “Guardian” roof are made when
it is retrofitted, as a result of the greater
difference between the U-values of the
original roof and the new roof type.
