NEW DELHI, Dec 27:

Two fully-loaded passengeraircraft today came face-to-facebarely 40 metres away on the taxi-way at the airport here but provi-dentially a disaster was avertedafter commanders of both theplanes alerted the air traffic controland switched off their engines.

On a day when a Jet Airwaysaircraft made an about turn and itsbelly sunk to the ground in theDabolim airport in Goa, a depart-ing SpiceJet aircraft found itselfin front of from an incomingIndiGo Airbus A320 in the sametaxi way allegedly due to a mis-communication from the AirTraffic Controller (ATC).

The two aircraft togetherhad 363 passengers on boardwhen the incident took placeearly in the morning.

Aviation regulator DGCAhas started its investigation into

the incident but it has not takenany "action" against anyone inthis regard, sources said.

Both SpiceJet and IndiGoconfirmed the incident and saidthat at no point of time the safetyof the passenger was in danger.

While the IndiGo plane arriv-ing from Lucknow had over 176passengers on board, theHyderabad-bound SpiceJet aircraftwas carrying 187 passengers whenthe incident took place, they said.

According to sources, SpiceJetplane was awaiting ATC clearancefor take off for over 90 minutes.

The operations at the Delhi air-port were hit at that time becausethe runway visibility range haddropped to below minima.(PTI)
