Welcom
e to COM
PSAC 2012!
On behalf of the O
rganizing and Program Com
mittees, w
e happily welcom
e you to Izmir, to attend
the 36th Annual International Computer Softw
are and Applications Conference (COM
PSAC). The technical them
e of this year’s COM
PSAC focuses on foundations, methodologies, architectures,
and mechanism
s that support modeling, design, im
plementation, and evaluation of trustw
orthy softw
are systems and applications that are critical for the digital society. As such, “Trustw
orthy Softw
are Systems for the D
igital Society” forms this year’s them
e. The keynotes, program features,
research and industrial practice papers, and panels with a w
ide range of topics, focusing on the secure use of clouds to softw
are engineering of critical infrastructure systems such as, but not
limited to, civil, telecom
munications, and m
edical systems. To properly engineer such system
s, the foundations, m
ethodologies, and mechanism
s that support the design, modeling, and evaluation of
software system
s must com
e from diverse sources. To secure such system
s, security methodologies
and techniques must be applied.
Topics of interest of this year’s COM
PSAC include requirement analysis, co-analysis and co-design,
modeling, design, developm
ent, testing, measurem
ent, verification and validation for performance,
safety, security, dependability, and usability constraints, and use of novel infrastructures including the cloud. Effective construction of system
s for the digital society is not limited solely to the field
of computer science and engineering and is truly a m
ultidisciplinary effort. Multidisciplinary w
ork, research and developm
ent software prototypes, industry-university collaborations, all based on
new em
erging and critical technologies are all part of COM
PSAC.
We take this opportunity to thank the Track Chairs, O
rganization Chairs, and mem
bers of the Program
Comm
ittee (PC) who have w
orked tirelessly soliciting and reviewing papers, and have
participated in the PC program discussions and selected papers for the final technical program
. We
thank the reviewers for their hard w
ork in providing quality reviews for each paper. W
e specifically acknow
ledge the contributions of the Program Chairs Xiaoying Bai, Atilla Elci, and M
ohamm
ad Zulkernine in creating and setting the program
. Special thanks are extended to Professor Carl Chang for his enthusiastic contribution to the entire technical program
development process and
for his serving as the Standing Comm
ittee Chair and to the faculty, staff, and students at Iowa State
University for running conference w
ebsites and paper submission system
and to the IEEE CS staff for organizing the PC m
eeting in Los Angeles. Finally, we w
ish to specially thank Tugkan Tuglular for his excellent local arrangem
ents in Izmir and Laurel Tw
eed for all her work in several organizational
aspects of the conference.
We also thank all the keynote speakers, panelists, and authors for their contribution to the exciting
technical program in CO
MPSAC 2012.
We trust that CO
MPSAC 2012 w
ill provide you with a valuable opportunity to interact w
ith other researchers and practitioners from
institutions around the world.
Enjoy!!
