Saugeen Shores and Lake Huron are well known for great beaches and a great place to take your vacations both summer and winter. It’s very reassuring to know that when it comes to Emergency Services we are also leading the way. You will find a very progressive volunteer Fire Department with 55 members be-tween 2 stations. One station is located in Southampton and the other located in Port Elgin, who pride themselves on continuous training to deliver the very best service to the community in their time of need. One of the keys to our success is our recruitment and retention program. We also can boast as one of few municipalities in Bruce County that have a full time Public Education and Prevention division and progressively conduct Public Education through schools, clubs, businesses and residential. We have an annual Jr. Firefighters program which allows forty children ages 9, 10 and 11 to spend one evening a week for 6 weeks at the fire stations to learn different functions within the fire service and learning fire safety within the community. We offer fire extinguisher training for all business and workplaces in Saugeen Shores. The fire prevention division also conducts building inspections to confirm compliance with the Ontario Fire Code to protect people and public that use these buildings. The next time you’re going through Saugeen Shores stop and say hello!
