ALUMNI MEETINGS 7:00 p.m. Everyone is Welcome! 1st Monday of every Month @ Kiel High School
MISSION STATEMENT To promote agricultural education, FFA & supervised agricultural experiences by
creating an environment where individuals & communities can improve their
potential for premier leadership, personal growth & career success.
Now that summer is finally here the Alumni has a little time to relax and gear-up for the next
school year. I want to personally thank the FFA for my Honorary Member Plaque this year. It was a
total shock to me at the banquet and I am very humbled to receive it. The FFA and FFA Alumni
worked together to do Adopt-a-Highway in May. Thank you to all who helped make County Highway
XX clean. Thank You Dennis & Karen Graf for all that you do to make this event a success and the
fabulous breakfast that is always available when the job is done. It was great working with the past
officer team throughout the year and we look forward to working with the new team for the
upcoming school year.
Wondering where you as an Alumni member can help out. The Kiel Picnic is right around the
corner and extra helping hands are always appreciated. This is one great example of working with the
students that can make a positive impact on the FFA and the FFA members. Leading by example is
always a positive thing. If you are interested in helping feel free to contact David Friend or Randy
Charles, I am sure they will not turn you away. Another area where you could help would be to
remind our school board members the importance of Agriculture in the community. It was with this
support that we are getting some remodeling projects accomplished with the referendum. Let’s keep
Agriculture in front of them and remind them when you see them the importance Agricultural
Education has in the district.

Summer 2013
FFA Alumni Holds Brat Fry’s
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Kiel FFA joined forces with The New Holstein FFA members and
sponsored their annual Senior Citizen Prom on Saturday April 27th in
the New Holstein High School gym. Once again a huge turnout of
seniors from far and wide came to the free event to listen to the Jerry
Schneider Band and to dance the night away. A tradition of the event is
to crown a queen and king, and this year’s surprised recipients of the
honor are Patty Burkart of Sheboygan and Jim Petrie of New Holstein.
A great time was had by all!
On Saturday March 23rd The Kiel FFA Alumni held a Brat Fry along with a Bake sale, at The Meeme Town Hall in School Hill. The weather was a typical cold March day and left us with a profit of $344.23. On May 11
th the alumni held a Brat Fry at the
Kiel Piggly Wiggly with a profit of $352.69.
THANKS
to everyone that helped with either of these fry’s.
Over 180 community members, business sponsors and students attended a night of celebration for over 100 students and their accomplishments at Millhome Supper Club on May 17th. Over 450 students are impacted by Kiel’s Agricultural Education program annually. Each student has the opportunity to participate in the cohesive and intra-curricular program, FFA once the student has enrolled in an Agricultural Course at the middle or high school. Over 100 students were recognized in 30 different categories. Your Kiel FFA Alumni obtained over 30 community sponsors for this $5,000 event. Many sponsors were in attendance to witness the depth and variety of these student’s successes over the past year.
The Kiel FFA and FFA Alumni thank our partners who have supported agricultural education and FFA throughout this past year in each endeavor.
After wrapping up another school year it's time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the new year to come. It's always bitter-sweet to see the graduates move on to further their education or begin their chosen careers. I always miss them, but that feeling always mingles with the sense of pride I feel in playing a role in their personal growth. Last week the Kiel FFA participated in the Wisconsin FFA's end of the year celebration by attending the state convention in Madison. The chapter had ten members present and two members received their Gold-rated Proficiencies, two members received their State Degrees, one recipient of a $750 scholarship, one 3-Star Leadership winner, two WI FFA Honors Band participants, and the chapter was awarded a bronze rating for its program of activities. Members also listened to two nationally renowned inspirational speakers, attend leadership workshops and observed the state finals of several public speaking events. It's opportunities like this that are partially sponsored by the Kiel FFA Alumni that help develop students into premier leaders of the future. Looking ahead to next year we eagerly anticipate some exciting changes. Due to increased enrollment, the agriculture department welcomes back Mrs. Katrina Pionek who will be teaching the Introduction to Agriculture courses at the high school. This now brings the department to three agriculture instructors which are bucking the statewide trend of reduction. We also look forward to the long overdue facility remodel. It looks like completion of the Agricultural Research Facility is tentatively scheduled to be in November. Once we move in we will be able to provide first hand work skills that should better prepare our students for career success. There is a saying that "it takes a village to raise a child". The success of the past year and sustaining it into the future depends upon the continued joint efforts of the Kiel FFA Alumni, Kiel Agriculture Education Advisory Committee, sponsors/donors, parents, students and staff. Thank you to all who have lent a hand, shared advice, donated money or equipment, or offered a kind word along the way. Our mission continues to be developing students' potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Peace be with you, David Friend
The Kiel Junior FFA had a very successful year. With it being my first year as an FFA advisor and my first year here in Kiel, it was a great year all around which was largely made possible from the warm welcome I received the very first day I arrived in Kiel. The alumni, school staff, and especially David Friend and Katrina Pionek were very helpful by providing guidance and advice which made my year enjoyable and smooth running on a daily basis. Many of the activities that we did could not have been possible without the hard work of our officer team which consisted of Jacob Friend, Paige Raddatz, Lita Noordyk, Lydia Luebke, Helen Crawford, and Sierra Schobert. Everything they did contributed to the success of our chapter. With the end of one year and the beginning of the next comes a new team of officers that will be given the challenging task of completing the many tasks required to run a successful chapter. The new officer team consists of: President-Lita Noordyk, Vice President-Kelsey Maurer, Treasurer-Peter Luebke, Secretary-Jenna Schweitzer, Reporter-Dakota Reiss, Sentinel-Jon Raddatz and Historian-Courtney Eberle. One of the up-coming events we have is the Kiel Picnic FFA food stand fundraiser. Students are asked to work
shifts at the picnic to help run our food stand. For incoming 7th and 8th graders that are considering joining FFA
or would like to know more about the FFA, I encourage them to come and help. If they work only 3 shifts at the
Kiel Picnic, the FFA will pay for their dues plus receive a free FFA t-shirt. If you would like more information
regarding the Kiel Picnic or questions as to what FFA and the Agricultural Education program can offer, feel free
to email me any time at [email protected]. It would be my pleasure. I am looking forward to another
successful and exciting year!
Enjoy your Summer! Randy Charles
