! For our Comenius Project we want to show you some pictures of
three of our natural beauties. Manduria is located in an
agricultural area but it is also a tourist place for its
environmental attractions. As natural beauties we have chosen: the
sea, the Mediterranean Macchia and the majestic olive trees. We are
really proud of them so..... Enjoy them!
Slide 3
Lets start from the sea with its marvellous crystal waters
Slide 4
and its sandy and rocky beaches
Slide 5
Along the coast you find Salina Monaci which has anthropic
origins. Till some years ago it was a neglected area of no interest
but now it has been rediscovered and is a treasure of inestimable
natural value..
Slide 6
Salina is the result of a natural depression in the ground and
in the past it was used for the production of salt
Slide 7
When you are there you can still smell the salty scent brought
by the wind and you can come into contact with the unpolluted
nature..
Slide 8
In this natural habitat we can find very beautiful birds such
as swans, flamingos, wild ducks and mallards
Slide 9
The river Chidro is a karstic river situated at about 5 km far
from the Salina Monaci and it is the most important stream in all
the Ionic Apulian coast.
Slide 10
The Chidro has acquired economic importance over the centuries
and it is known as a place for fishing and water supply..
Slide 11
The Chidro is a part of the naturalistic oasis with its
biodiversity and migratory birds
Slide 12
Now, enjoy yourselves with the Mediterranean Macchia Another
natural beauty of our territory is the Mediterranean Macchia for
its richness in vegetation and wild plants.
Slide 13
You can find : Prickly juniper. It grows very slowly: only one
cm. a year. Such a big plant as in the pictures below means that it
is centuries years old, just like olive trees.
Slide 14
The myrtle trees. Their leaves exhale a good smell. Myrtle is
also used to make jams and liqueurs.
Slide 15
And now The the majestic olive trees Our town is an
agricultural centre with large stretches of flat land which provide
the ideal conditions for large scale agriculture of olive groves
and vineyards.
Slide 16
Olive trees are natural sculptures made by the wind and the sun
They are trees very rich in leaves and fruit and provide a good
quality of oil which is a staple food in Apulia and our
country
Slide 17
The olive tree in the picture is a century-old tree. It is
unique and has an ancient twisted trunk.
Slide 18
We hope you have liked our beauties and see you soon!!!!!
