For a given cable type see all cables scheduled with that type. Also gives status and design length of each cable listed.

For a given cable type see the total estimated, design and installed lengths for the cables of that type. Also shows thetotal cable count for the cable type.
Cable Purpose Codes
Create the purpose categories for cables: power, control, degaussing, relay etc. This Purpose Code is compared to the

Equipment Schedule
Enter and maintain details of all cabling related equipment used on the project. This includes tray types, ladder racktypes, penetration types, plugs, sockets, etc.
What is the Equipment Schedule and how do I use it?
The Equipment Schedule is the screen where all types of equipment relating to the nodal network and cable
terminations are listed and described with associated attributes such as size, weight etc.
The Equipment Schedule, like all CMPIC screens, can be used to add, amend and retrieve information on equipment.
The screen can be found under the menu hierarchy: Project Name > Library Data > Equipment Data
There are tabs which are used to select the type of equipment that you are interested in. These tabs are:
Segment Types
Segment types describe the equipment which is used to create the nodal network. These include: trays, ladders, MCTs
and penetrations, trenches, hangers, conduits, ducts etc. Any type of equipment which carries cables can be listed anddescribed here. You can also add other types of cable containment which might otherwise not be clearly definedelsewhere, such as buried cableways, jumps between trays, etc.
Plugs/Sockets
If you have cables which are terminated with a plug, then the plugs and their matching sockets can be added here.
Once you choose a plug for a cable, CMPIC ensures that only a matching socket can be used on the device. In theterminations function of CMPIC, the software then allows you to terminate the cores of the cable to the pins in the plug
rather than to the terminals in the device.
Terminal types
If you want CMPIC to help you to check that cable core sizes match the terminals in a device, then you can decribe the
terminal types in use here. Once a terminal type has been added, you will be able to select the appropriate type for each

device terminal when you schedule the device. CMPIC then checks whether the cable core diameter is within theallowance of the terminal type, and if not gives a warning.
Conduit Types
Conduits are used (in CMPIC terms) to shield or protect cables when they are running along trays, ladders etc. Typically
a shielded conduit, in some applications, is used to protect a cable from others of different segregations. This allows that
cabel to be routed alongside incompatible cables as long as it remains in the shielded conduit. The management of thisprocess is carried out by CMPIC.
Termination Equipment
This covers equipment such as lugs, rings, clamps and other equipment used on cable cores during termination. The
details of the termination equipment can be added so that core diameter is checked to see whether it falls within theallowance of the termination equipment type, and if not gives a warning.
Cable glands
Gland details can be added here and glands can be associated with specific cable types. When associating a gland witha cable type, the diameter of the cable type is checked against the allowable diameters for the gland and if not CMPIC
gives a warning.
Transit Blocks
Transit blocks are used in conjunction with MCTs Roxtec and Brattberg being the two most common. The details of
the blocks through which the cables pass are defined in this section. When a nodal network type of MCT / penetration isused (with a fill type of 4), then CMPIC automatically looks to see if there are any transit blocks defined in the equipment
schedule. If there are, the software will use the smallest block defined to contain the cable type in question. CMPIC thenuses the block dimensions and not the cable diameter to calculate the % fill of the MCT.
Other equipment
In this section you can define any other equipment which could be applied by CMPIC but which has not been definedelsewhere. This could include backshell equipment such as sleeves and adaptors. Once defined here, these can then
be used to add to the materials linked to plugs and sockets for example.
Overall equipment view
This is a list of all equipment defined in the equipment schedule.
Adding Segment Types - a segment being a type of tray, hanger, transit etc
Segment
Type IDA unique ID (30 characters max) to identify the segment type
Description 60 characters free text to describe the segment type
Width Width in mm of the tray, ladder, hanger etc
Height Height in mm
Weight The weight of the segment type expressed as Kg per metre
Fill type
The down arrow icon displays the list of available fill types. Choose a fill type which typically reflects
how fill is calculated for this type of segment. This can be overridden for specific projects or through
updating the fill types for segments using the Segment Fill Type Update screen.
Span
In the suppliers catalogue (for trays and ladders) you will find UDL information. The Span field should
show the normal span that you use (distance between tray/ladder supports). In the tab below on the
left hand side headed UDL Information, you then type the same Span distance and in the field to the
right UDL kg/m you type in the weight advised for this span from the suppliers catalogue.
Corporate
No.This is an free text field to enter an alternative code for the segment type, such as a supplier reference.

In this section you can choose to apply a different fill type (for the highlighted segment type in the main screen) perproject. Although the defauilt fill type in the main screen is 3 Multi layer in this section you can change that. In this
example, for project CAD2, the fill type used for the selected segment type will be 2 and not 3.
Project Availability tab
In the Project Availability tab you can restrict the use of a selected segment type to specific projects. If not restrictedthen the segment type will be available for all projects. Clicking on the Restrict Projects button shows this message. If
you OK the message then the segment type selected can only be used on the project you are in and any other projectswhere this segment type has already been used in the nodal network.
You can De-Restrict the use of the segment type by clicking on the De-Restrict button.
Creating Multi-Tier segments
A multi-tier segment is a hanger or tray which has more than one level on which cables can be routed. In CMPIC thesetypes of segments can be created in the equipment library. Once a multi-tier segment has been defined in theequipment library it can be used as part of the nodal network creation. The multi-tier segment type can be referenced
either directly from the Create Nodal Network screen in CMPIC or if interfaced to CAD can be created based on anattribute (multi-tier type ID) passed to CMPIC through the network creation process. Each multi-tier type has a multi-tier
segregation allocation which defines the tier that each segregation must keep to.

The advantages of this approach are:
Each customer can create their own series of standard multi-tier configurations. The multi-tier configuration is
created using segment types already defined in the Equipment Library. So multi-tiers can be all the same tray or
hanger size, or different sizes for each tier. Any number of banks of trays can be configured so you could create
two banks of 4 trays running down either side of a corridor.
Once the multi-tier segment has been used, CMPIC will ensure that each cable segregation is allocated to the
appropriate tier. CMPIC manages the routing of cables from tier to tier based on allowable segregations. Reports
reflect the tiers that cables run along for production documentation purposes.
Other functions explained
Category this is a free text field to add an alternative reference for the segment type. Once a category has been typein, it can be re-used by double clicking in the field which then shows the categories already used.
Min BR and Max BR is the minimum and/or maximum bending radius for the segment type. If used, this figure iscompared to the MBR for the cable type with appropriate warnings given when routing.
Penetration if this segment type is being used as a penetration or MCT, this box should be ticked. This then invokes

certain rules for use of this segment type.
Conduit Allowed if this segment type allows the use of conduit (as described in Conduit Types above) the tick this
box.
Point Segment an MCT or hanger/bracket can be defined as a point segment. If this box is ticked, it means that the
MCT or hanger can be defined in the nodal network as being a single node. So the nodal network screen expects the to
and from node for the segment to be the same. This allows % volume and weight fill to be calculated at that node, ratherthan between nodes.
Non-standard penetration if you allow non-standard penetrations (i.e. irregular shaped holes), then you need to tick
the option in Project Defaults (Network tab) which allows this. Then as you create segment types, you can define which
of these are Non Standard Penetrations. Once selected her, you can then specify a usable area (instead of a fixedarea) when creating the nodal network.
Plugs and Sockets
Plug/Socket ID A unique 20 character (max) code for the plug or socket
Type A toggle to choose whether the item is a plug or socketDescription Free text field to describe the plug or socket
No. Pins The number of pins (terminals) in the plug or socket

Creating the pins
Once the number of pins has been entered in the No. Pins field, by clicking on the Create Pins button, a line is created
in the Pin Definition section for each pin. The pins can then be named. This pin name will be used (if required) as areference to show to which pin each cable core is terminated. Double clicking in Pin Type field which show a list of the
pin types available (if defined already).
Association tab
After the plugs and sockets have been created in the main screen, by double clicking in the Assoc. Plug/Socket field,you can select the plug or socket that it should associated (paired) with.
Associated cable types tab
If you highlight a plug or socket in the main screen, then double click in the Cable Type field, you can associate specificcable types with that type of plug or socket.
Backshell tab
If the plug or socket requires any additional equipment to complete the terminations activity at the device, then theadditional equipment can be defined in this section. Any equipment defined as an Adaptor, Sleeve, Boot etc in the Other
Equipment section of the Equipment Schedule, can be added to the plug or socket record.
Project Availability tab
In the Project Availability tab you can restrict the use of a selected plug or socket to specific projects. If not restricted

Description A 40 character max description of the terminal type
Min Conduct The minimum core size of cable which can be accommodated by the terminal type
Max Conduct The maximum core size of cable which can be accommodated by the terminal type
Corporate No. A free text field for adding an alternative reference
If terminal types are assigned to device terminals, then CMPIC will issue a warning if the core size of the cable is
incompatible with the min and max conductor sizes declared with the terminal type.
Conduit types tab
In this section you can identify the types of conduit to be used. Conduits are used (in CMPIC terms) to shield or protect
cables when they are running along trays, ladders etc. Typically a shielded conduit, in some applications, is used toprotect a cable from others of different segregations. This allows that cabel to be routed alongside incompatible cables
as long as it remains in the shielded conduit. The management of this process is carried out by CMPIC.

Refers to SCREENED or not. If a conduit is identified (using the toggle) as YES (that is = Screened)
then this type of conduit CAN be used to contain a cable which has segregation not listed for a part of

Inner OD Inside diameter of the conduit. Used to calculate the % volume fill of the conduit.
Outer ODOutside diameter of the conduit. Used to calculate (along with the OD of the other cables) the %

As with all CMPIC screens, double clicking in one of the blue fields will take you to more detail in another screen.
Area & Location Codes
Enter and maintain details about areas or compartments used. These could be rooms, compartments, corridors,stairwells etc. There are also 3 further hierarchies of areas available. For example a room could be part of a floor whichis part of a building which is part of a site.
This hierarchy of areas is set up in Project Configuration defaults, General tab.
The first level of the hierarchy is shown when accessing the Areas screen.

Clicking on the next tab in the hierarchy enables you to create the reference names for this level. Make sure that you
SAVEthese new levels before moving to the next step.
Then if you click on the Link Areas button at the bottom of the screen you will be presented with a list of available areasto link.

Status Code Order
This is only relevant for Installation statuses. The screen shows the next level (s) of status following on from a given
status. E.g. If a cable is PSP (Pull Sheet Printed) the next status could be one of the many partial pull, options or fully
pulled (IFP). You can step through the Installation statuses by using the up and down arrows on the tool bar when thestatus is highlighted in the top left hand box. Once the status shows that you want to add subsequent statuses to, youcan double click in the bottom section of the screen in the left hand column which presents you with statuses to choose
from. This list will be the list of statuses presented to the user when they opt to update the Installation record for thecable.

To navigate back to the parent screen, double click on the Parent description text top left.
Fill Types
This screen shows the list of all the nodal network Fill Types which can be used in CMPIC.
The Fill Types each have their own algorithms which determine how % fill is calculated based on the layout of the cablesand the bundling rule (if applied). See Device & Cable Scheduling Add/Maintain Cables for further information on
bundling.
There is a second tab which is greyed out (except for tray type fills 2 and 3). For these tray type fills the user can define
his own separation rules for cables of different segregations running on the same tray. For an explanation of how to setup these spacing rules go to Library Data#Segregation Spacing.

For the tray fill types 2 and 3, if you go to the Spacing Fill Types tab, you are able to create your own second levelfilltypes which you can then apply where required.
In the Spacing Fill Type and Description fields, you add your own fill type attributes. It is probably wise to use anumbering sequence which can be seen to be a sub-category of either fill type 2 or 3. In this example we have
numbered our fill type as 2001. Double clicking in the Spacing Class field presents a list of the Spacing Classes already
created. A Spacing Class is therefore now associated with your new fill type.
If you now go to the Equipment Schedule, you will be able to apply your new fill type to those segment types which

should have the new fill calculation applied to.
The new fill type can also be applied to individual segments in the Maintain Nodal Network screen. If you double click in
the Fill Type field you will be presented with a list of all available fill types including any that you have created. You willsee the 2001 type just created.

Segregation Spacing
This is the screen in which the spacing rules referred to above are created.
A Spacing Rule determines which segregations of cables can share the same tray but only when spaced by a givendistance. The spacings only apply to the named segregations. So, if segregations other than these are also allowed on
the tray, then these cables will be used as part of the spacings, thereby maximising use of available tray width whilst still
abiding by the spacing rules.
The first step is to create a new line to describe the new class.

Secondly, go to the Segregation Spacing tab.
Double click in the left hand Segregation field and choose a segregation.
In the right hand Segregation field choose the segregation which should be separated from the one you just selected.Then enter the spacing in mm that should be left between these two segregations.

You can then repeat the exercise for as many segregations as you want to include in this Class of spacings.
Alternatively, if you click on the Copy button, you will be presented with a small panel. If you double click in the left hand
blue field, you will get a list of Spacing Classes already created. If you choose one and continue, the details of theselected class will be copied across. You can then edit these details as required.
In this example a line is deleted and the spacing distance is amended. Copying is obviously useful where the spacing
class is complicated.

The new Spacing Class can now be used to add to new Fill Types as explained in the section above.
User Area Authorisation
Unless specifically being used on the project, accessing this screen will produce an error. If required, the screen is used
to set up areas for which nominated users have the responsibility of approving cables. This means that cables can berouted and approved in separate areas and once all sections of the cables route have been approved, the entire cablesroute is deemed approved.

AutoRouter Rule Sets
When using the Auto Router, the user can submit a cable for routing using more than one set of rules to optimise cableroutes, % fill etc. These rule sets can be created using this screen.

MoreCable Purpose Codes
Create the purpose categories for cables: power, control, degaussing, relay etc. This Purpose Code is compared to thePurpose Code listed for the cable type. If there is a mismatch, CMPIC will issue a warning but does not stop you using
that cable type.
Deck Order
For marine projects the user can define here the decks referred to in the project.
The decks declared here can be used as part of a data formatting rule when creating other data, for example cableway
segments. In this case when creating a new segment, DECK can be forced to be part of the segment ID.

Signal Types
In the Terminations Module of CMPIC, Signals can be applied to cable cores. This screen enables the user to create the
signal types which can then be used to create specific signals cable by cable.
Standard Notes
In this screen the user can create and maintain the list of Standard Notes to be applied to Cables and the nodalnetwork. These numbered notes can then be applied to cables or the nodal network from within other screens.

Once the note has been added, for example as a Pull Sheet and/or Term Chart note, then when the report is printed thenote will be included and will appear in the NOTES screen (accessed from Cable Schedule or Cable Terminationsscreen).

Block Definition
For marine applications, if a ship is being constructed at more than one yard, the structure of each separate block canbe defined in this screen. The structure being a set of compartments which belong to the block. Each block is alsoallocated to a Site. This then means that block and site specific reports can be generated.
Number the block and type in a description.
Each block can be associated with a Site by double clicking in the site field.
Click on Link Areas.
Tick the boxes to the right of the areas / compartments that you want to associate with the Block.
Click on Link Area(s)

Maintain sites
For marine applications, if construction is being carried out at more than one yard, then the sites (or yards) involved arelisted here. They can then be used and referred to in other screens.
Firstly list the sites in this screen.
Then go to Project Configuration and in the Build tab create a new line (if needed) in this screen.

Double click in the site field and choose from the sites listed.
Enter a priority for the site. This is the order in which the sites appear in lists of values.

You can now allocate these sites where required.
Maintain Earthing Chart
Where CMPIC is used for on site testing and documentation of test results, where an Earthing Chart is used, this screen
allows maintenance of the appearance of that chart (which is a report in itself).
This report can be printed with Cable Connections report (CMYR16).
Zone Definition
If the design is or can be broken down into zones, this screen allows creation of those zones. A zone is a grouping ofareas or compartments. Once created these zones can be used as part of CMPIC routing rules. Zones can be defined
as being required or prohibited for given cables routes. An area or compartment can be part of more than one zone ifrequired.
Type in an ID and description of the zone. Then SAVE the record.

Now click on Link Areas which takes you to another screen in which you tick the boxes to the right of the areas that you
want to link to the zone. Then click on Link Areas and the zone is created.
Report Cover Page
When reports are created which allow modification of the cover page, these are shown through this screen.
Most reports do not allow these modifications.
Reports
Area ReportEnables a report to be created for cables and devices in a specified area or group of areas.
