DELICATE BALANCE
Slide 4
CLIMATE CHANGE Climate change refers to significant change in
measures of the climate lasting for an extended period of time
(i.e., decades to millions of years). The earths climate has been
changing slowly over the centuries, cold periods have alternated
with warm periods. However, in recent years, these changes are
happening at a much faster and devastating rate. Human activities
including deforestation, burning of fossil fuels and industrial
processes are found largely responsible.
Slide 5
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT "Development that meets the needs of
the present without compromising the ability of future generations
to meet their own needs. From the World Commission on Environment
and Development (the Brundtland Commission) Our Common Future
report (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1987).
