1. Regularity in serving
meals.
.In Senapati district, 55% of the
sample schools were serving
meals. In Tamenglong district, 90% of
the sample schools were
regularly serving hot cooked
meals.
Due to untimely released of
foodgrains, MDM are unable to
serve regularly in Senapati district. In Tamenglong district, 10% of the
sample schools are not supplied
MDM due to nature of the
intervention.

In both the districts, 100% of the
sample schools did not receive
foodgrains in time.
In both districts, there is problem of
delayed delivering of foodgrains to
schools.
3. Regularity in delivering
cooking cost to school
level
In Senapati district, mode of
payment of cooking cost is done
through banking channels. In both districts, none of the
sample schools received MDM
cooking cost in time. In Tamenglong district, mode of
payment of cooking costs is
done through cash and banking
channels.
In both districts, there is problem of
delay in delivering cooking cost to
school level.
4. Social Equity In both districts, there is no
gender, caste or community
discrimination.
In both districts, eating and seating
arrangement of MDM are mostly
floor arrangement.
5. Variety of Menu In Senapati, 10% of the sample
schools displayed weekly menu. In both districts, Head Master
decides the menu in most of
the sample schools and also
served different types of menu.
In Tamenglong district, sample
schools are not displaying weekly
menu at a place noticeable to
community.
6. Quality and Quantity of
meal.
In both districts, good qualities
of foodgrains were received.
In both districts, there is
inadequate quantity of food grains.
7. Supplementary In both districts, there is no
health card maintained and
also no health check-up in
sample schools.
In both districts, none of the
sample schools had given micro
nutrients (Iron, folic-acid vitamin –
A dosage) and de-warming
medicine periodically to the
students.
8. Status of Cooks. In both districts, cooks are
belonging to Scheduled Tribes
(ST) as the district is
predominantly ST district. In Senapati district, 35% of the
sample schools had the facility
of cooks and helpers. In Tamenglong district, 66.66%
of the sample schools have the
facility of both cooks and
helpers engaged in the schools
as per GOI norms of MDM.
Remuneration paid to cooks and
cooks-cum-helper have delayed. In Tamenglong district, there is 1
(one) male helper in Tengkonjang
Hr.Sec./S.
9. Infrastructure In both districts, most of the
sample schools have no kitchen
sheds.
MDM were prepared either in the
house of cooks or Head Master’s
house or inside the classrooms
whichever is convenient to the
schools.
10. Storing of food grains
and other ingredients of
MDM
In Tamenglong, most of the
schools stored foodgrains inside
the school office room.
In both districts, kitchen shed-cum-
store rooms were required in those
sample schools which have no store
rooms.
11. Availability of Water for
cooking and drinking
purposes
In Senapati district, Stream water
used for cooking and drinking
purposes in most of sample
schools. In Tamenglong district,most of the
sample schools used pipe water
for cooking and drinking
purposes.

12. Availability of kitchen
devices
In both districts, most of the
sample schools have inadequate
kitchen devices.
In Tamenglong district, 2 (two) sample
schools have no utensils available
from SSA even at present –
Raengkhung No.1 P/S and Tamenglong
HQ P/S
13. Kinds of Fuel used In both districts, firewood used as
fuel for cooking purposes.
In both districts, using of fire-wood
happened to be one of the sources of
air pollution having the problem of
health hazards.
14. Safety and Hygiene In Senapati district, 45% of sample
schools are having the safety and
hygienic environment of the
children. In Tamenglong district, teachers
are encouraged the children to
wash hands before and after
eating meals and also children
take meals in an orderly manner.
In Tamenglong district, 100% of the
sample schools have poor
environmental conditions as there is
no fencing around the school campus
for the students studying in these
schools and also lack of proper use of
dust-bins in these schools.
15.Community Participation
and Awareness (CPA) in
MDM
In both districts, most of the sample
schools have CPA about the benefits
of MDM. In Tamenglong district, 38.88% have
good general awareness of MDM.
In both districts, i.e. 9 sample schools in
Senapati district and 4 sample schools in
Tamenglong district, SMC members are
not looking after the MDM programme
implementation due to lack of
awareness of community.
16. Inspection and
Supervision.
In Senapati district, 70% of the
sample schools have been inspected
occasionally by Officers. In Tamenglong district, 47.22% of
the sample schools were inspected
by Officers twice in a year.
Frequent visits to sample schools by
BRP/CRP during the time of serving
MDM.
17. Impact In both districts, the impact of MDM
are improvement of the enrolment
of the students and nutritional
status of the children.
Democratic decentralization of schools
management should be made more
meaningful and effective for MDM
18. Others MDM should be implemented in the
state of Manipur with a proper
vision and mission in relation to RTE
Act 2009 and RTE rules 2011 so that
the problem of hunger, deprivation
may be properly rooted from the
state of Manipur for children in the
age group 6-14 years.
Capacity building, work culture and
professional ethics should be inculcated in
a big way.
