Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
November 24, 2019
FOCUS: Today we celebrate Jesus, preeminent over all creation yet always bestowing his love and forgiveness.
Jesus, the image of the invisible God, is preeminent over all creation and head of the Church. On this solemnity, we recognize that Jesus Christ is King but we also know that our loving Savior shows us compassion and mercy, as he showed to the good thief. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, the tribes of Israel anoint David, their shepherd, as king. In the reading from Colossians, Paul writes of the incredible glory of Jesus, firstborn of all creation, head of the Church, and preeminent over all creation. In the Gospel, Jesus shows his compassion and mercy by assuring the good thief of his en-trance into his kingdom. REFLECTION: "Location, location, location" – the gos-pel shows us that all through his life and right up to his death, Christ has taken a place with the suffering, poor, sick, the defeated and the outcast who cry out to God. Christ is "the image of the invisible God," and has shown that his rule is from our location – from the midst of us. So we ask ourselves:
• Where in the midst of the world do you discover Christ?
• How have you responded to Christ the King in that place? Advent 2019
Advent is a season observed in many Chris-tian churches as a time of expectant waiting and prepa-ration for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas as well as the return of Jesus at the second coming. The term is a version of the Latin word mean-ing "coming". Advent begins next Sunday, December 1. As we en-ter into the season of Advent, it's easy to get caught in the whirlwind of Christmas preparations, whether shop-ping, baking, party planning or somewhere in between. We know that Advent is a season of conversion for the heart. Let us spend more time this season praying and preparing our hearts for Christ’s coming. You are invited to join us for Dynamic Catholic’s Best Advent Ever, which is all about the amazing pos-sibilities for your life. Every day during Advent you will receive an email with a short video from Matthew Kelly and the Dynamic Catholic team. It’s free and easy to sign up. All you have to do is go to BestAdventEver.com and enter your name and email address. Let’s have an amazing Advent together!

Hoy honramos a Cristo Rey!
