Acknowledgements The Salinas High Music Association board of directors would like to thank you for
supporting music at Salinas High by attending this performance! We also thank Ms. Elizabeth Duethman, SHS Principal, and Mr. Dan Burns, SUHSD Superintendent, for their support and encouragement. And we gratefully acknowledge
the assistance provided by the administrative staff at Salinas High School. Mrs. Boulware, and all the student participants devoted numerous hours before and after school to prepare for this performance. We thank them for making music a
priority! We also extend our appreciation to the parent volunteers—many of whom no longer
have students at SHS—responsible for making this program such a success. Through this partnership of families, students, teachers, association members, administration and support staff, the music department at Salinas High School
continues to thrive and to be a premier program.
Ms. Michelle Boulware – Vocal Music Instructor Michelle Boulware is very happy to be teaching at Salinas High School. She has been teaching choral music for over 12 years. She specializes in choral/vocal health, and works with choirs and singers all over the U.S. as a vocal coach and clinician. As a soloist and performer, she has extensive experience in all areas of vocal music including opera, musical theater and solo recitals. Michelle's experience as a soloist and conductor has taken her to New York, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Canada, England, Ireland and Scotland. She has sung backup for Josh Groban, Michael McDonald, Carmen, Tommy Sims and the Gettys. She still regularly performs with Aria and in the theater community. Michelle founded the Monarch Youth Chorus in Monterey. She is also the Assistant Conductor of both the Monterey Peninsula Voices and Aria. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Cal State Long Beach.
Salinas High School Music Department Salinas High School is proud to have a vibrant and successful music department, with over four hundred students participating each year and two music instructors on campus. The available classes and groups range from beginning instruction to audition-based performance groups that participate in activities both inside and outside of California. While many school music programs have decreased in size in the recent past, Salinas High School has actually grown and expanded its curriculum. Much of this success is due to the financial support of the parent volunteers who make up the Salinas High School Music Association. The program also benefits from the encouragement and goodwill of the school and district administration.
The vocal music program at Salinas High School has four performance groups. Chorale teaches the fundamentals of singing and musicianship while offering performance opportunities to the students. The Acappella Choir is an auditioned group of young men and women that, over the years, has traveled internationally, earning unanimous superior ratings at California Music Educator events and festivals across the country. Bel Canto is an all-girl auditioned choir. The SHS Jazz Choir is opening students to an entirely different way of singing and style of music, and the Barbershop Quartets are the newest performing groups. The vocal groups of Salinas High School also represent the school and Salinas with pride at a wide range of community events throughout the year.

The Salinas High Music Association is a non-profit volunteer organization that raises the funds to provide stewardship and strength to the music programs of SHS.
The performing arts have a demonstrated link to academic success in all areas, especially language and mathematics; and we believe that strength in these core areas
translates into success for the young adults within our community.
For more than twenty-five years, SHMA has been a primary source of funding for instruments, music, uniforms and travel expenses for the students, and it provides
college scholarships for qualifying students.
Learn more If you are interested in learning more about SHMA, we invite you to attend the board meetings held every second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the music building.
Visitors are always welcome.
