Today the county season comes to an end with the final of the Cheshire Shield between Winnington Park and the host club. Whilst congratulating both sides on reaching the final we must thank ail those who have supported Colts' Football this season, the Club Committees and coaches, the advertisers in todays programme, the Referees from Manchester and Liverpool Societies and the County Colts' Committee for its dedication to youth football.

Colts rugby is growing in strength every year and no where is it stronger than in the North West of England. At club and county level the game is played with pride and passion and an ever increasing skill factor.

Clubs now look to their colts side as their future as less schools now devote their efforts to rugby. International sides now draw more colts players into their ranks, though this has been the case for many years in Wales.

ln our own county the "Colts Cheshire Shield" is now considered to be the major competition for most clubs as the main competition has been dominated by Sale for too many years to remember. Certainly in the early rounds of this years competition the games have drawn good crowds at clubs like Chester, Lymm, Birkenhead Park, Winnington Park and Macclesfield, ail drawn not just to support their own clubs but to watch good rugby.

Colts rugby is played with a purer spirit towards the game than would appear at Senior level with players much more willing to display individual skills and prepared to move the bail much more by hand. 1 feel sure that spi rit will be displayed by both sides today iftheir previous encounters are anything to go by. 1: CLUBMAN ~~ ~_-'
